I'm new to the forum and to 3-wheelers so excuse my lack of knowledge. I share a 250sx with my older brother and have been thinking on getting another 3-wheeler or trike as I call it. I can either buy my brothers sx or get my own Bigred. Ive also been looking at the 350x but there impossible to find. Help please. I would like to know the pros and cons of the 2 or 3. Thank you

Since I've never ridden a Big Red, I thought I'd better share my ignorant opinion! The 250SX and the Big Red (85-87) share the same engine, although they are geared a bit differently. The BR was designed as a comfortable utility machine and the SX, having more suspension, a comfortable sport machine. I love my SX, and if I could get another one for a good price, I would do so. The 350X is a true sport machine. This is for "all out" riding, and has no utility value at all. You're probably not going to putt around the trails on a 350X.
Of course, I'd welcome others input, especially those who have ridden both the SX and the BR.

I have had 350X's and love my 85 BR... The 350 is a blast to tear around like a lunatic on, but I enjoy hitting the deep trails and working my BR better...

Love my big red! Never had an sx but rode a 250sx and it was fun to fly around on and jump but I agree white Thorpe. I like to go anywhere I want to and the big red will go just about anywhere.

Ive use my trike for fishing and just exploring the trails around my cabin. Ive never had a problem with my SX going threw trails(execpt really rocky ones) but I'm pretty sure thats something i'm not gonna find any better unless i get a quad which I have and don't like. So from what I see Big Red would be there better choices, I still like to go fast so does any one know the top speed of the BR I know the SX is around 55mph

I have a 85 BR and I get a top speed of around 50. Don't quite understand the need for speed as most of my riding on trails in MI if you can get out of 3rd or 4th gear you are lucky. Also hauling firewood out of the woods I probably don't get much out of 2nd or 3rd.

If i put a big red in my full size ford, there is no room for anything else,, MAY be a bicycle.
1985+ trikes
The sx is essentially the same machine but I can load an sx AND a 90 and actually go somewhere.
Make sure the swing arm bearings are ok.
not a real fun job to replace
I have prob 3 big reds that I can walk up to day or night and 1 sx. that simply run and work.
I usually grab a TOTally beat, spraypainted big red, the one with NO brakes and run around the farm chasing whatever and dragging all kinds of stuff.
If I had racks on the sx (not real common), I'd be more tempted to use it all the time too.

I have two SX's and my Dad has a mint ES (big red) I find the SXs have nicer shocks and to me to feels like the sx has more get up and go.
The read fenders on the ES fold up and allow you to get at the battery really easy where as you have to take the whole fender assembly off the bike for the SX. I have front and back racks for Both my 250sx's and my dad has front and back racks on his 250es.no big difference there except the ES has a utility plug and removable flood light.
I think the 250es has more torque....but not much, anything I have ever been doing with my Dads 250es the 250sx has been able to do fine.
If you use the search bar, look for a 250sx vs 250es comparison thread. Someone did a marvelous write up on these 2 machines awhile back

Thanks for the help, Im thinking on sticking with the sx, Were my cabin is to there are alot of gravel roads wich are a blast to razz around on but there are also lots of rough trails that lead to ponds and gap over to other roads so I'm thinking sx would be the way to go. Im not hauling anything and If i do I got a 350 bigbear. My brother is willing to sell my the sx for what he paid no including work we put into so it a good deal. Ive also scraped the 350X cause I do love the hit the trails.
