Just like the title says finally tearing into my 350x. Because I have some egged out swing arm bolt holes I have to get fixed up. But the thing that had me the most nervous was my exhaust studs, were in pretty rough shape. Well I think you know what happened they all snapped I knew they were gonna but a Guy can hope for the best lol.

So know I have two things to fix now, way I figure should do rings while I'm in that deep into the motor. Then that dang swing arm bolt is froze up to, seems like more and more keep popping up but its a typical thing.my biggest worry is them dang exhaust studs, never messed with stud replacing before. So wish me luck guys. Or dirtcrasher may have another project if he wants one ha ha.

Going pretty slow pace right now with a 1 yr old boy that's go go lol. So when he is napping I go tinker on it a lil bit at a time. I will try and get some pics up tomorrow and show ya guys my slow but steady progress lol.

So my plan is to have half inch washer welded on the swing arm bolt hole to fix the egged hole. I've heard of this working before. Any body done this before? And if so how did it wor and hold up? Figured would share with ya guys what I'm up to. Have to get it ready in perfect tip top shape for the spring ride at the LA sand dunes, with few of the other 3ww members gonna be a blast.

Just welding on a washer will prob work, especially if you keep the bolt tight so it cant do any more egging, me i think i would build up the original hole with weld and then dremel it with a round sanding drum back to spec. Just my thoughts on that.
As far as the head, save yourself the aggrivation and send it to D-C It will come back better than new and he will be much happier rather than trying to work on somethingthat you snapped a drill off in.

Yooperman, I think the word you are looking to use is "brawn" not bronze. Brawn is muscle. The pharase is for those that think up the ideas and those that use the muscle or do the work to get the job done. Brains and Brawn.

Just got the motor out could tell it has not been messed with for a long time. The motor mounts were the worst part handppp. There will be anti seize going on every bolt for sure.

PROJECT UPDATE

Well pretty much down to the frame all I have to do is take off the forks now. The swing arm was a project had to cut the swing arm bolt. And I couldn't see buying a sawzall for just this project, so I improvised I bought hacksaw blades but bought to short of ones. So I clamped a set of visegrips on to the end and went to town it got the job done was pretty rough inside the swing arm tube dirt and gunk lots of cleaning gonna have to be done before I put the new bearings in. Got a busy day tomorrow main spot I gotta stop at is a machine shop/welding to have swing arm bolt holes fixed. So I will try and get pictures of the damage I got to fix.

the old vise grip hack saw priceless.

Gotta love Yoopers determination. For years I used a hacksaw blade with a key ring on each end to cut through the pelvic bone on whitetails in the bush. Boy he must have worked hard on steel!

Status up date its all tore down and ready to go to the machine/welding shop. to get swing arm bolt holes fixed up and the old swing arm bearings pressed out and new bearings pressed in. See how much that will run me. I will have to find time. To get the frame to a sandblaster, so I can get it a covering lol.

well have a little bit more progress again. just got frame and swing arm back from machine/welding shop. swing arm bolt holes are all fixed up now they filled the hole in then welded a washer on and then drilled it out. they also pressed out the old swing arm bearing and pressed in the new ones, the old ones were toast the peices just crumbled. now i have to just get it to the paint shop so i can get it sand blasted and check if there is any other surprises hiding from me lol. though about using zip strip to try to save lil money but i decided against it because i dont want it to get in a crack or a hole, and once its painted drip out and then wreck my paint, that would really set me off.

the first photos are the beginning and my damages, my exhaust studs are the more serious ones though. sorry there so late fellas hope ya like the work the shop did i think they did a pretty good job on the swing arm bolt holes. dont mind the mess lol i get into my work then i clean up when i am done for the day, kinda cramped work erea garage is pretty packed with stuff we kinda lost some storage place compared to what we had in michigan.

UPDATE

Got the frame, swing arm and head light gaurd back from PC place, turned out good. I feel I got a good deal because he only charged me 180 smackers. Now I'm. In the process of getting every thing back together slowly but sure lol. Finally getting some where now on it. Once I get it all back together I have to give DirtCrasher a call and get some head work quotes from him. Rather have a guy who is honest and knows what's he is doing when working on my stuff. But its coming along fellas. Trying to get it fixed and cleaned up so its ready to go for the spring ride at the LA sand dunes thiss spring woot woot, gotta show the the southern boys how the yoopers ride (yankee's) lol

Way to go on the trike. Yeah its hard working on trikes with kids. My son is 2 and 1/2 but he will watch me rebuild a carb without messing with it. Figure another couple years and I'll let him try on an old junk carb. We still hardly have any snow here. You aren't missing much of a winter.

Yeah I was shocked is snowed lil bit here yesterday morn when I was bringing kid for for walk. I was shocked, its been a slow process lately with the kid being sick and every thing else. You are right it is tough to do projects with kids lol. I just want to get it back together into a roller after making it look purtty lol. It ain't gonna be a restore,or a custom job, or a 100% perfect or OEM. Just giving her a freshing up and and make it look nice, and function good. I'm. Kinda in a hurry now to get it back to a rolling chassis, because I really want to get my head shipped to Dirt Crasher, so he can do his magic on get it back up to par. And to go through the head ,valves, valves seats, ECT since he know what's he is doing with this kind of stuff.

There's woods down here but there not the same as the yooper woods let me tell ya lol good people down here though. The saying is true though the southern people have hospitality all the ones I bumped into any ways lol. More to do though for the kid though down here for the kid which is a plus

That will be awesome. I can't wait to tear down the old 200X and give it some attention. And some paint while I'm at it. I am looking forward to a couple years from now I picked up two YF60's (quad) from a guy in Gulliver for my son. I might turn one into a YT60, aka Tri-Zinger. We are going to have a good time fixing those together. He gets so excited to go for a 3 wheeler ride. He goes over to the YT175 every time he sees it and pulls the pull starter.

I love taking the 3 wheeler to the general store, grabbing what I need, and then hitting the seasonal roads on the way home. You ever go up to that bar in Big Bay? more 4 wheelers and 3 wheelers in the parking lot than cars. I'd ask what brought you to LA but the answer must be work.

I've been to big bay few times in my journeys lol. Yeah my wife got a process engineer job down her(chemical engineer). were down here for atleast 2 yrs that's what her contract is and we will go from there. because seems like it has been one thing after another since we moved down here with the kid being sick all the time, and the humidity =alf hr 45 mins from houghton where michigan tech is its in the upper peninsula. You ever get up that way lots of good riding ther

UP DATE

started back on the 350x tonight again. since my internal parts came in yesterday, and my head got back from dirt crasher, and let me tell you he does some awsome work. if you ever need anything thing done give him a shout you wont be disappointed.
I got the top end all off tonight it tonight and after i had it all apart i was inspecting everything, the cylinder looks really good, it was either rebuilt prior to me owning it or just hardly rode. because you can still see some of the swarl marks on it, the piston looks really good also, its still shiny and no scratches or anything from the rings down, there are few little scuffs and marks in that little section from the top ring up but i dont think they are any thing to be concerned about. the only thing that i am concerned about it the wrist pin because there is a mark about roughly an inch long on the pin, and you can feel it when you run your finger over it. its not a scratch or a gouge though, and the connecting rod still looks good with no marks. most likely will wend up replacing it unless i can just smooth it out? that wrist pin was my only hiccup.115700

200xmichigan your going for a lil jont for a 200S hey dang trolls lol thanks guys been lil slow going but its coming along now that i got the tecate it slowed down lil more lol. i would have had it back together today, but the wrist pin had that mark on it and bugged me, and if i would have put it back together with it like that and if something happened to the motor i would have been really pissed at my self. i got the cylinder honed last night turned out pretty good for first time doing it lol. it aint nothing but a chicken wing. but boy was i PISSED when i ordered the new wrist pin and clips from cheapcycleparts.com i pick fast shipping didnt have prices on it i figured couldnt be no mor then ten buck. i got to the reciept section once every thing was don and that shipping was almost 40 buck and the wrist pin and clips were lil over 20 buck. so i paid 50 some bucks for a wrist pin and 2 clips, and i couldnt change it cause order was placed. enough to piss a guy off thats for sure. i got my foot peg extenders or foot stay what ever you guys call them the other day got them on i will post pics of them either later today or this weekend some time i like the looks of them seem like there goon work good and pretty cheap also.

IT LIVES

i just got the 350x running for the first time since the rebuild. it was a beast to start the first time lol.

now my main question, for you guys.

i went for a ride to break in the new rings, went down the road for a little distance. going at different speeds, i was riding around for about i would say maybe ten mins. i went back to my house because i was feeling heat more then usual, i shut it down, and checked it out.

it was HOT it seemed really hot for the time i was riding, so i checked the oil cooler it was hot, just not as hot as the motor. the oil level is good. is there something else i should check out. or is it normal to run hot for a while after new rings until its 100% broke in.

any info would be appreciated
