Wow Guys! Thanks fabiodriven for posting. Getting used to the black and red, I forgive you partner. How'd the shock feel? That's my type of fun. Now I want to load up the kids & get to the lake. That would be the time of my life. Man, not being able to attend feels like someone just stole my girlfriend or something. You folk gotta know how special and lucky you are to get to be together for something like this. And on the other side of the country trikers converging. What a depressing weekend for the rest of us, lol.

I don't like the black and red Hang. It'll be back to green soon. It's tough to tell how the shock is on the ice because it's pretty smooth anyways.

I was winning my race until this happened-

I know the feeling obtained in a wreck isn't the same you get from winning. But as I mentioned in the past, there is something sick about this whole thing. Let me explain: when getting tangled up with a big bull and being thrown underneath him, the hooking, stomping and weight of him on me, when it was all said and done, you look back and think 'that was cool'. During the wreck, the adrenaline, concentration, fear, all wrapped up in one, it's a cool feeling. Or is it just me? I told ya I was a sick b@st@rd, lol.

Not sure on the head count, but I counted 60 people during the drivers meeting. That did not include the dozen or so huddled under the tarp near the heater.

and i think it scared fabiodriven way more than myself...

and the more look at it, he was pushin way hard. too much axle weight and not enough gas cap weight.

fabiodriven
02-21-2011, 11:08 PM
It was too unpredictable. This was the first time I had run it with the studs and the pushing was my biggest problem. I could get it out sideways but the front definitely needed more bite. The reason why it doesn't bite like it should is half of the front studs were a crappy Ebay brand and the other half were Kold Kutters. I need to replace the Cheez-o studs with Kold Kutters and now that I know what she does I can index the studs as well. It would help if it were wider too. Had plenty of motor though!

BIG BORE MAIN

Ya know..... when I shot out in first with a perfect start......probably the best start I ever had and then saw #91 shoot around me, I was like how the heck did he get there? I was like oh well, I'll just blow by him on the straight, and hold the inside and take the lead back, then my bike started missing, so I didn't care anymore after that. I was just sorry I got in Chris's way. My bike finally quit this week, either the cdi box or coil went bad. Got some new ones on order, hopefully get to use them before melt down.

Yep, I jumped... about a half a bike length, then clutched and waited. I still won the main by 3-4 bike lengths. I don't think the jump was the deciding factor of that race...

Don't take it wrong, like I said my bike was missing otherwise you may have never got around me on the outside, so for me it didn't matter. I got in Chris's way, so you two couldn't have battled it out. But a jump in a race that short on a track that difficult to pass on can mean the difference between winning or losing. Shooting out in front like that on the outside, everyone had to get on the brakes to avoid hitting you, when you would have otherwise been eating the gate. Yours, mine (when running right) and Chris's bikes (and John's too) are all pretty close, and if anyone of us got out in front, passing may have not been possible. So a good start is paramount in winning that race. It's all good, I don't want you to think we are all being competitive, I just want to come home in one piece. Winning not so important to me. I thought I had fixed my bike, because in the heat it was running fine, so I went for it. If I had known my bike was going to start missing and breaking up, I would have let everyone go in front of me. It was a sporadic electrical problem that I thought I had fixed by putting a new plug in. Even the next day it ran fine for 30-40 laps, then started missing again. I went home and ran two more days on the ice, and it was fine, then all of a sudden it died completely. I should have the new parts by Tuesday, but the ice may be gone by then.
Your gonna have to make a trip down here next year, and hang with us.

vids are great!! The races were awful short, hard to do a whole lot in three laps and no practice. I agree hole shots were key!! 5 lap races would have been better, but mother nature did not see it that way. Plow races next year!! lol. from the big bore main footage only it looks like ZM had the right line running wide, as in most of the vid his is the only trike in the frame. But, i had the same issue with the guy running wide in the 4-stroke main, i had to brake hard, and still couldnt avoid the collision in turn 3 lap 2!! there was 3 of us that got together 2 coming in tight, and the guy coming from way outside!! Great fun all the same!

Good eye...most didn't even notice. And yes, it was the only one set-up like that out there. Makes the bike very tight, more forward bite throught the corner, less sliding than a standard set-up.

Actually... After STUDYING the video (since people act like the result would have been different if I hadn't jumped), I have found that I was just ON MY GAME! Watch the flagman... His arm moves the same time I do. 33-34 sec in the video. keep rewinding it to 33 sec and you'll see, I left as soon as he moved. That IS how you judge a flagged start, correct? I am not supposed to wait for the flag to reach the bottom of the flagmans stroke am I? AND, there is NO WAY anyone had to BRAKE for me due to the line I was running. excuses...

riverrat
02-28-2011, 08:24 PM
No you moved before the flagman moved his arm. I watched it again, it was very close. I do give you props for recognizing it at the start and holding back for a split second. You may or may have not been swallowed by the gate on a mx track, and on any other oval track there would have been a restart with you in the rear. Then the outcome would have been different for sure. You are not the only one running stagger. I did brake to avoid swinging wide and hitting you on the first straight, I don't even want to come close to hitting someone.
Remember, the outcome for me would have been the same either way since I wasn't running right, so to me it doesn't matter. Unless we restarted with you in the rear, and I was a total ass and decided to block you for 5 laps, but I wouldn't do that anyway. I was even shocked I finished 3rd with my my bike breaking up like that.

so yeah after reviewing, the footage, of "the early" start, i have come to this conclusion. Kintore the flag man, was completely still until a split second before he dropped the flag.now if i were i that race and the motionless flagman made a motion like he was going to drop the flag, i would have dropped the clutch as well. it seems to me like he was going to drop it, had a moment of hesitation and went with it after all. so i personally think if any one is to blame it would be the flag guy. for "flinching" the races.

next up as facts of the day. why did no one standing right there say anything? bj, atctim, jakethesnake, johnnys'x, or any one else standing right there when it all went down?

sorry this is just the way i see it. and yes a "real" starting gate will do alot next year, but with that this will mean the "track officials" will really need to be on there game.

and as to the validity of the win, absolutely, if there were any doubts on the start, they should have been adressed at the end of the first lap with a red flag.

I did bring it up but in the excitement of the race starting no one seemed to be interested in what I had to say. I mentioned it a couple of times and when no one seemed to want to hear it I let it go and watched the rest of the race. Whether it determined the outcome of the race or not probably depends on how it would have been handled. If they had sent John to the back it might have made it more difficult but I'm sure he'd have managed to grab himself second place seeing as how the hardest thing to do in a tight track is get around someone no matter if you are a little faster than them or not.

I think stuff like this is all part of the learning curve and a few lessons were learned from that race. For one, we might need to do something like they do at a MX track when the gates are broken which is a large rubber band (i.e. piece of surgical tubing) stretched across the gate for the start. Secondly is that we need a couple of sets of IMPARTIAL eyes on the start and if ANY of the officials calls it a false start then that's what it is and those who jumped are subject to a predetermined penalty. Lastly we need to make a rule for what happens to those who jump the start. When I ran flat track here (indoor and outdoor) any and all riders who jumped the start went to the back of the pack at the start. They didn't use any rubber band or gate, just the officials word. I remember some races at the indoors where 5 out of 6 quads jumped and the smart racer who never got caught up in the moment at the line found himself in the front row all by himself with the 5 other guys two rows deep behind him.

I also think we might want to re-think only having 5 laps as a main. Maybe 5 for the heats but I'd love to see 10 as a heat race and 15 or 20 as a main depending on the size of the track to make it more than just a 3 minute sprint. One of the most fun races I did was a 40 lap race on a 1/4 mile dirt oval, it took about 15 minutes of running flat out to get to the end. I remember breathing a sigh of relief at the halfway flags and just about crying with joy when I saw the 2 to go flags. :)

I would also propose that we find a fair way to determine where the riders start in the grid. Maybe have each of us pull a card from a deck of cards and whoever gets the highest card picks his spot first and so on down the line. Just having from 2 up to Aces without any duplicates would avoid the possibility of having two riders pick the same card. Lastly, even when I did the outdoor 1/4 mile track they did not line us up 5 or 6 abreast and that had a pretty wide front stretch and first turn. We had two rows with whoever won the heat races getting the first two spots and so on down the line. I think two rows of 3 would probably be better in this instance but all of it is just suggestions. Obviously, the last one kind of interferes with the whole "card pick" idea so that would have to be sorted out.

Not trying to nit-pick, just giving some suggestions.

Next year I won't be on the sideline to watch the start because I'm planning on being in the feature. I won't have run myself down prepping another trike to the point that I couldn't think straight right before the heat and cost myself a top three in the heat race. It's one thing to get beat by someone else, its another all together more frustrating thing to pretty much beat yourself. :banghead:

I think if we have 2 or 3 people scoring the race it wouldn't be very hard to do it accurately, they would just have a list of the racers plate number and make a check next to their number for every lap they do. We seem to have 6 in the main most times to 3 scorekeepers each watching 2 riders would be pretty easy to do. We would just have to make sure everyone had numbers that were easy to read on the front and rear of their machine. It would be cool to introduce some strategy into the race instead of just a sprint.

I'll keep bringing the 4x4 to plow with, it comes in handy even when its not plowing. It makes a great helmet holder and cooler stand.
