My buddy's is slipping badly now. We tried to do it once last year but didn't have the correct size wrench. Now it's really bad,I looked at the manual ant it looks like it takes 4 specialty tools to do. I have some big sockets and could use an adjustable wrench for the sockets I don't have but does anyone know how to work around the other needed tools (holding tools?). Any tips would be helpful.

It's simple. Buy the correct tools or chew up & destroy the stuff you have.

You need the right tool. You may get the nut off, but you will not get it tight enough when it goes back together.
Ebay has the tool.

I made one of those tools by cutting a big socket in the correct spots with a Dremel. Works pretty good when used with an impact wrench. Zips that nut off in about 2 seconds

I would have to look. It's been a couple years.

15/16ths socket ground down works great. Impact wrenches take it off and put it on with no problem. Otherwise, there will be problems.
You didn't have the right wrench so it got worse, I guess ignoring it didn't help.
Clean your oil filter rotor and screen when your in there. Please don't ask me what those are or how to do it........

I have a socket that was machined down also. I think it is a 7/8. Works great on an impact as stated above. Nice work with that dremel!

I made one today just for the hell of it with a hacksaw, file and a 13/16 socket

I'm not gonna lie I used a hammer and punch, like the last guy who was in my motor before i got it. I lock-tited it back on and haven't had a problem (knock on wood).
