I just picked up a 1986 Honda 200S and it has rear suspension. Not factory for sure, but not a bad looking
set up. The left side fender and front fender are broke, but it runs clean and rides true. Seat is torn and the
tank has a dent in it.
I'm trying to decide what to do with it?
I already have a mint 1981 Honda 200 that my grandpa bought brand new and always stored indoors. So I
don't need another 200 to restore to collect dust. Not sure if its worth more to part it out, or fix the
cosmetics and try to sell it? Other than the plastic, its complete.
Your thoughts? Is the rear suspension unique, and does it add value, or subtract value since its aftermarket?
Thx

I would probably part it out. But you should search for the parts you need and figure out how much it will be just in parts to fix it up to your standards. Otherwise, if you are patient enough, parting it out will bring you more money assuming you are able to sell all the parts. Your biggest problem is that there isn't a huge market for this stuff and you need to be reasonable about what you expect to get for the parts. Otherwise no one will bite.

Put up a pic.if its nice and the suspension kit was done right it might be worth putting new plastics on and reselling it for a profit.what did you pay for it?

I'll have to get a pic or two this evening and try to upload to the board.

I jumped on this and a '85 250R I picked up a couple weeks back. Didn't really have the money for them, but it was a good deal I couldn't pass up since I have always wanted a liquid cooled 250R. Paid $750 for both as a package. The R is all stock except for rear tires and rear fenders, but has needed a few new parts to make it right.

The S was their other bike and they wanted it out of the garage as well. I was going to fix it up and give it to my sister who has rediscovered riding ATC's and quads. But, she's more into quads so I'm thinking she wouldn't use it much. My wife is deathly afraid of the 3 wheelers so she won't ride it, and my kids are years away from being big enough to ride a 200.

The plastic on the S looks to be the biggest expense. Out here, a pristine 250SX will barely get $900, so I'm guessing if this S looked near perfect, I could likely get around $500 for it. New aftermarket fenders will cost me half of that unless I can find some used ones on the board that no one has a need for.

ya part out the 200s and fix up the 250r. You could prolly do well with the 250r on ebay if you cleaned it up well and had a title for it.

Attached pics (hopefully these worked).

Keep and fix, or part it out? Is the frame with the suspension worth anything? I don't need to keep it so I'd only fix it up to resell.

I'd keep it and fix it up a bit, make a trail rider out of it. The suspension kit looks fairly well done. Plastic can be zip tied and you can find decent deals if you're patient.

i would keep it also, the 86200s seems pretty rare compared to the 84-85, and with the rear susp. its even rarer. Maybe someone will be able to give youmore info on the rear end.

Is it just me, or does the rake angle look dis-proportionate on that trike? Seems like it's too vertical to me. :wondering
