View Full Version : Two rear engine mount bolts stuck on 84 200x

I am trying to remove an engine on a 200x and the two rear engine mount bolts seem to be frozen solid! I have been whacking the bolts with a 4 pound sledge hammer and they do not budge a millimeter! The bottom end of the engine is toast from a bad clutch and right side cover being left off, but I cannot seem to get the bolts out to put an AutoX replacement engine in. I have sprayed PB Blaster and let it sit for days, but I suspect that it is not seeping down into the cracks between the bolt and the engine casing. I tried heat with a propane torch, but the torch kept blowing out, maybe from the angle I had to hold it. I was thinking of using my Oxy Acetylene torch on it, but wonder if I could vaporize the oil and cause a crankcase explosion. I am starting to consider desperate measures. I am convinced that the steel bolts have corroded to the aluminum case.
Any suggestions?

what about tipping it on its side and spraying blaster into the holes? I never had a problem getting motor mounts out of my old X's..... my problem was the swingarm bolt and it took about 3 cans of blaster, a torch, and a BFH to get it out! are you sure that the motor is not putting the bolt in a bind?

OxyAcetlene torch is the way to go. If they won't come leese with the methods you described I'd get that torch on it. Shouldn't be a problem.

Use a 50:50 mix of acetone and power steering fluid, or ATF (the same stuff basically) This mix was mentioned on another forum on this website for being really good at eating through rust. If you are going to scrap the engine anyway, just cut the bolt out. You should have plenty of room to do that. You could flip the frame over on top of itself too to get a better angle at the bolts. I bet you could get it without heat. If you heat it up with a torch you'll prolly end up burnin your frame or something stupid. It is such a small space for a torch.

i would just cut the bolts off on the inside of the frame.they are f'ed anyway and your not using that motor,if you cut into the motor a little oh well.just stay away from the frame.i use a matobo or my angle grinder with a cutting disk.
