Air Cooled is up to 1984, 85 and 86 are liquid cooled.

The decoding site didn't find anything on it. There should also be a decal on the opposite side of the VIN that tells you the year, and model.

nothing. also have another question, wen i give it gas it pulls to the right could it be from the amount of air in the tires not being even??

That's quite possible. Also, have you cleaned out the carb, and replaced the plug?

no not yet i just got yesterday, i paid 300$ for it so i jumped on the deal. i did drain the tank and put new gas in it . the previous owner said it's been sitting since last yr with the same plug and gas... i looked at a few pics and it looks identical to the 83'

yeah, you should deff. check the tire pressure, but you need a low pressure guage, atv tires run at 5-10 psi, my lt250r will pull like crazy on pavement because theres so much power and if im leaning just the slightest bit to one sidew, it will pull that way. never had an air cooled 250r so i dont know if it has the same prob. but if it pulls without wheeleing or spinnin the tires then its prob the pressure

ya i only rode it in my street last night so i'm thinking its the tire pressure.

your vin is missing a number which is probably why it is not showing up

No, we just call them Air(foolers), and there's a big following behind them :D
Not exactly big profit margins on them for re-sale, typically you'll seem them go for between $400-$700 here on the west coast, so $300 was a good deal.
BTW, are you running 2 stroke oil in the gas? I know it's a silly question, but just making sure :)

You have an excellent 2-stroke, air-cooled motor that has alot of preformance options that can be tapped into, changing it to a lesser 4-stroke would be a down grade. Google Honda atc 250r and you'll get tons of information as well. You're local bike shop will have the chain, or information to quickly cut you one. E-bay will have stock 83' 250r chains for a much better price and better product than the expensive dealer. Count your links and see how many you got. That is a great trike. Fenders & parts are still somewhat abundant for the 2nd generation 250r.

Yep, they may seem like the forgotten machines, but there's still tons of them out there, and they're tons of fun to fool around with in the dirt, or sand or whatever :)
