Has anyone ever taken a snowmobile ski, or any type of ski for that matter, and fabbed it to fit a bigred? I got some 2 link v bar chains for the back , and am looking at options to steer the front on ice.

I dont know how well it worked but I've seen front ski attachments for some of the old "department store" briggs powered trikes. Maybe thats a place to look for ideas?

Take it on the ice before you go through all the work... My ITP Mudlites take me everywhere I want to go on the ice, no need for screws or chains....

same experience with my machines. By the time I'm getting stuck so often I can't enjoy riding its to deep to ride anything thats not 4x4 or has tires rather then a track.
even 4x4s won't go threw much more. the main problem is not traction, but ground clearance.

Its not getting stuck I am worried about, Its mainly steering on the snow less lakes I am worried about. I got the chains because i will be hauling the trailer.

I pull 200 pounds of ice fishing gear across the ice without any issues... Chains will make it more difficult to steer... How big of a trailer are you planning to pull on the ice?

A 4x7' traier. If I head down to ohio, we will be traveling upwards of 20 miles. Alot of times there is no snow on the ice at all.

I dont think you would have any issues to pull it on the ice....
