Last month for some reason or another I was looking on Ebay at 200x parts (I dont even own one...yet) and I see a listing for an OEM grab bar for an 86-7 200x (kinda rare too) but the picture shows a hand coned pipe for what looks like a Tecate- sure enough in the desciption it says it is and it is of unknown make/origin. I message him (he is a known trike and parts seller from Cali) and ask if he will take $75 for it (was asking $90obo). He says yes. $15 to ship. So I get it and its pretty sweet but needs some dents removed and the stinger fixed and some kind of coating of course. Then I need to figure out what silencer I want to run with it. But I think the price was right;) I cant wait to replace my DG with this! I was lucky enough to have a Dirt Wheels April 1986 issue and saw this pipe. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/tecate11-6-10009.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/tecate11-6-10004.jpg

I don't think that that is a Klemm Research pipe though. Not enough sections and the pipe hanger is different. Definitely a nice pipe for a great price though.

Yeah I thought I would get called out on this. Sorry for the crappy pics. I tried to scan the mag and couldnt get any better. There is a lot of black paint over some welds. Heres some better pics. Definitely the same amount of sections and hangar. If not Klemm what pipe do you think it is? Power Pros? I wish funds werent so low right now or I would be making it nice- what coating should I go with? Ceramic? Nickle? Pros/Cons? Thanks. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe002.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe003.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe006.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe014.jpg

Power Pros made Klemm Research's pipes until 87 when Klemm Research started making their own pipes which were stamped. The area I was referring to was from the upper hanger to halfway down the largest part of the pipe. Your pipe has fewer welds than the one in the ad.

But upon closer inspection, there are a lot of similarities with my Klemm (power pros) pipe. The spring hangers are the same (small metal j hooks), the welds look similar. Is the first bend into the cylinder also sectioned? Regardless of who made it, it's a great pipe, and you got a great deal on it.

To make that pipe look awesome, I would sand it and heat the welds to make it look like the pipe in the ad. HondaHarry made a thread a while back about bluing pipes I think.

Thanks for all the awesome info dcreel! The piece out of the cylinder isnt sectional, it has a welded seam, then there are 9 pieces that make up the first 90. The pics arent that great and there is a lot of paint in that area. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for pipe bluing. From the first time I saw that ad thats what I wanted, I just had no idea on how to do it. I cant wait to get this nasty paint off of here and check out these welds. I will have to post again when I get it looking nice! Thanks again for your help! http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe016.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/Tecatepipe017.jpg

I have been wondering about bluing a pipe, common practice in a sheet-metal shop and rifles I have had and like the steel look, naturally. ezmoney1979- if ya do a pipe will ya post up some pictures? I think it'd look pretty nice, want to see & know what kind of prep work. Went back and looked at HondaHarry's threads to find information, but I have an extremely short attention span and ended up on Glamis photo's, so found no info on it.

I got my pipe back today from getting the dents popped out. There is a guy down the road from me that does it- he charged me $60. I got excited and wire wheeled it for a few hours (very fine wire:p) and heated up the welds just to see what would happen:wondering http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/tecatepipe005.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/tecatepipe006-1.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae240/ezmoney1979/tecatepipe007.jpg With a little more time I hope to have it looking how I want!! If I would have slowed down a bit on heating the welds and dialed my torch down it would be more define but you gotta learn somehow;)

You got the right idea. I tried a propane torch at first too, and didnt like it, did the same thing yours did. You need an oxy/acetyline torch with a small/fine welding tip to get a narrower band. Once the heat builds up with that tip, it goes really fast. Might take a couple tries. Not sure if you found my thread about it on the "other" site. :)

heres some motivational pics.

my dad has an acetylene torch at his shop. not sure about oxy/acetylene though. I know we have a small tip for it though.

oh and Honda Harry, I'm insanely jealous of that Tiger200.

Thanks for the assistance/compliments guys!:beer Now I need an old school silencer to go with it. I cant see pairing this up with the DG I have, it just doesnt seem right:D I got my eye on a couple ebay items I think I can make work. I went ahead and put the pipe on and it fit so much better then the DG. The DG rubbed a front motor mount bolt and was dangerously close to the water pump. This pipe is sweet, all kinds of room in the critical areas. I really cant wait for the next ride now:naughty:

Looks very, VERY similar to the pipe that Trinity had Power Pro's make me in late 1997. A great pipe by the way!
