We went to Pismo this weekend for some fun but the 85 250R I just bought decided to lock up 30 seconds after I got it unloaded:wondering:wondering. I thought it was still a good deal for a grand as it only needed a chain and sprocket. I double checked everything and tested the compression. It was 165psi cold. All is well I thought. I only rode it for about 200 yards on the street for a test run because it only came with paddles so I couldn't do much on the street. For that short ride it went fine. What I did at Pismo was unload it, start it rode about 50 feet, it was loaded up I and cold so I wound it out a couple of times and it made a clunk sound and I could not even kick it over again.Maybe I should not have wound it out after only a few seconds but I never had any problems with my other 2 strokes? I took the spark plug out and it had chunks inside by the electrode. I have not tried to pull the top end yet I just got home. When I get it apart I'll post some pics of what gave out. I guess that is how it goes buying a 25 year old 2 stroke. It looked good and original with what I thought was minimal use but maybe it was on running on borrowed time:cry:. At least my daughter got to have some fun on her quad. Any suggestions on top end kits? Any input appreciated.

Air leak mighta happened. Maybe ran too lean?

get the motor apart ASAP and make sure nothing is in the bottom end!
