Going to give ice racing a try this year. I got these new Duro 18x9.50x8 Tires and wheels for free and a bag of at least 1000 very slightly used 1 inch long 1/4 inch head Kold Kutters for 25 dollars American.

I'm planning on starting with one stud centered per lug. If you can tell in the pic, the center of every other lug has a small square indent. Do I put a screw in the indent or off to the side? Seems in the indent would not grip as well as the non-indented lugs.

The 1 inch Kold Kutters will definately go through the core of the tire. I was advised to really air up the tires when screwin in the studs. Then when aired down to ridin pressure the rubber'll kinda shrink down to the studs to help seal. This sound right? Maybe no need for slime? How all ya racers doin it?

My front tire is origional ,about 50% tread, a bit of dry rotting, and has a tube in it. Can I get by with 1/4 inch screws that hopefully will not puncture the tube? Was planning on a new front tire in spring for the dirty trails.
