I think people run the XR200 carb, cam upgrade and nice exhaust. I haven't done the xr200 carb or exhaust yet. But so far a top end rebuild and cam change made a huge difference with very little money.

pipe and carb upgrade will make a very noticable difference especially DG pipe...one of mine I put a Cobra on it and it didn`t improve that much but the DG made a big difference...don`t know about the Keihin 27 carb from DG but do know the xr200 carb improves performance and if you go with the new pipe, you will have to change the jetting on the stocker or throttle response will suffer (mine wouldn`t idle at all and was hard to start before the rejet after a pipe upgrade)....I do know you shouldbe aware that with some flatslide carbs, you will find it hits the frame above the carb so you need to do a search and see who used what carb and what they had to do to make it fit under the frame rail....XR200 carb fits fine with no clearance issues
as for 86-87, all I can say is search this forum for posts on what fits or doesn`t but i would guess most of the 2nd gen X stuff won`t fit 1st gen X

1st and 2nd gen 200x are completely different machines. Very little if anything will swap
