not sure exactly where to post this but i was hoping to get some help with my 85 250sx. for some reason i cannot get the headlights to work, nor the taillight. also the start button doesnt work. the keyswitch works as its the only way i can shut off the machine. im hoping its a simple fix by replacing one part. anyone had this problem before. this is the second master switch and still nothing. is there some common thing im overlooking here?? please hellppppp. i also know the switch for the start button works cause i ohmed it and it has continuity when you press the button.
thanks

start by checking over every conection. the 86 sx has a nuetral switch, the electric start will not work in gear. not sure about the 85. sounds silly, but did you check the bulbs? hate to see a guy pull his hair out and find out it was just a bulb.

haha yeah after many hours i figured it would be a good idea. they all work. im just so confused because the red wire going to the key switch has power and i can jump it to the switch and it will start and also can jump power to the headlight and it will also work. ive checked the switch and it is in good working order. i got another one just to make sure. im at a loss. the only thing i changed is the key switch. i got a switch from a quad of that era and the wires were the same. only difference was there were 2 seperate plugs so i cut the plugs and hard wired it. the electric start is the biggest problem. i can jump the solenoid and it works on that end also.grrrrrrrr

is there any way i can bypass the neutral switch by grounding or something?

not sure... i know the key switches seem finicky some times, mine at least. check where the wire for the switch hooks up to the engine, my reverse light did not work till i jiggled that plug. i think the neutral switch is right there also. but if your lights are also not working i would think maybe the switch. did you check the fuse by the battery?

The neutral switch does complete a ground, so merely attach that wire to any ground. Doesn't need neutral for lights, you may have a blown voltage regulator amongst other wiring issues.
Read/study the wiring diagram and these problems are very easy to find. Might take a couple hours but you learn allot.......
