Anybody ever put a 85-86 250r complete front end on a 86-87 Tecate. I dug up one old thread by nd4speed but it was questions with no answers. Possible ? Pros,Cons ? I'm just contemplating. r parts are much more available and cheaper. After Christmas I'm cutting the astro kit off and need a whole front end.

kawasuki here on the forum has done this to his 85 t3, i know for sure he completed it as i supplied him with the forks, rim, tire, steering stem, i believe he is all finished with the swap but he is seldom here on the forum.

the rake angles are different.

I think tecate is leading axle and Honda is trailing.

How much difference it would make? Enough that no one has tried so far.

That's kinda what I thought. I noticed the rake and axle placements were different from looking at pictures. I just thought maybe someone had pulled it off. I'll pm kasuki. I don't know, might just leave it a 4 wheeler for now.

i have often wondered myself if 250r forks might be a good option.. anybody know how much the head tube angles actually differ? some compensation can be made with the rear sag if the difference isnt severe..

kasuki is a machinist by trade and i know it took him a bit to get it all figured out, i am not going to venture into it as i dont know the details i just know he did it and it looks nice.

hold out for the tecate front its way better than the honda front end.longer travel and bigger tubes.

I'm curious about the difference in the head tube angles, too. And it seems the r has 6 degrees of rake built into the triples. Anybody know how much in the Tecate? If you take the 6 degrees of rake in the triples minus the trailing vs leading axle=?? What about the stem, bearings and such? The stops may have to be re-configured but I could handle that. I haven't ridden an R since the 90's and I've never ridden a 2nd gen T-3 with the correct front end, How do they compare, Are the honda forks superior?

One more question on this, since I'm still on the fence. Anybody ever switched the forks and turned a trailing axle into leading?, I know it would put your brake on the opposite side, any more downfalls?

Other than the rake issue, the T3 had a longer head stay, so if you only have a set of 250r tripples, the pivot bolt (that the bearings mount on) will be too short. I contemplated going this route, but held out for a whole front end. I do have a lower triple for an 86 T3 if you want it, but you can't use it with a 250R top triple because the fork tubes are closer together on the R.

you would use a tecate stem in the R tripples.. If it proved to be a worthwhile conversion
