I have a complete 1986 200x. I am not to handy with the clutch and I perfer slower trail riding like in woods and uneven terrain. I was thinking I could see if some one would want to trade me for a 250 es or sx but living in west iowa I dont see alot of threewheelers around. hte other thing I was wondering is if there is another atv motor that would fit the frame that has auto clutch and rev. You guys wanna throw some opinions ideas at me? Gonna start working on it................for now!

You shouldn't have any issues finding someone to trade with you. That machine is somewhat sought after, as long as it's not a turd.

Even if it fits it doesn't have reverse.

deffinatly not a turd....... it does have a little white smoke but still loads of power good compression. don't get me wrong I really do like it I just am not good with the clutch I'll post some pics tomorrow. Yea don't wanna mess with swaping the engine unless the replacment has rev, as i said i like to do trail riding and in tight spots not haveing rev can be a bit of a pain. I have been wanting an 250 es or sx for quite a while it just has never really worked out yet.

went trail riding today with my 86 200x, no problems!! not being good/experianced with a clutch can make it intimidating on tight trails.. but if you get a feel for your machine you will be fine!! the trails we ride at my buddys parents farm are a mix of everything, hard pack dirt, loose dirt, mud, ruts, holes siding sideways on inclines, small hills ( used to run cows threw the woods we ride)
id say get out in a open field and ride alday and get afeel for what you and your machine can do, if after that you still dont feel comfortable, trade it off/ sell it. please dont swap a differant motor into a 86-87 200x

He wants what he wants..........
The 200S doesn't come close to fitting, that swaps into the 83-85 200X.
I'd hold out for an 86/87 250ES/SX before I let an 86 200X go. I know a guy that would trade you who lives in NY with a 200S with less than 60 hours. It is mint mint mint. BUT, you may want the shaft drive and larger engine of the ES/SX.

i know he wants what he wants, just offering my advice before deciding to get rid of the 200x,
definatly think a sx would meet your needs if you decide the 200x isnt your cupo juice

^ All I meant is that if he's made up his mind, it's done. You and I love the 86 200X and can trail ride them all day but everyone is different.......

very true sir!!! i only have about 2 hours of trail riding on my 86 200x due to replacing neglected parts from the previous owner/owners but im hooked on it! does what i want it to when i want it to! only thing it needs is wheel spacers to suit my riding style needs, definitly nicer on trails than my 84 and 85 200x's were
bigred1 to bad you didnt live in wisconsin, seems to be a overwelming amount of trikes on craigslist lately, everything from 70s and 110s up to 200s,m,e and some 250es/sx's

Thats funny......, I drove all the way up to the northeast part of wisconsin once to pick up a84 200x and a 85 200s kinda of an impulse decision that in hind site probably wasn't the best deal after factoring travel expense, but for the right deal I would meet in the middle. gonna post up some pics a little later when it warms a bit.

your 200x has been 4cfed approved,!!! from what i can see.. your missing the swing arm skid plate, and the oem tool box on the left rear of the frame, you still have the engine skid plate (mine is m.i.a.) and your seat fits tighter to the gas tank than my seat does

Looks like a fairly unmolested 200X you got there. Missing a few things here and there as noted already. Fork boots would look better imo. OEM plastics, brakes are there. Has aftermarket grab bar and tires. If you were to sell it outright I'd say 800 to a 1000 range to the right person or you should be able to trade it for 250sx or Big Red in same to better condition straight up. Myself I'd keep it.
Looks good maybe get more seat time in it and you'll get used to the clucth.
Good luck either way.
Edit: Looked at the pics again and rear fender looks rough and may not be oem.

I've decided that i will put it up for trade for either an 85, 86 or 87 es or sx. In the mean time I am going to start investing some time and money into it if I find a good trade then good if not thats fine to, either way I end up with a nice trike.

After going on a trail ride with my new 250ES it truly justified owning 3 trikes, because they are all great in their own way. The Big Red can go through anything and tow anything and it is a brute, but my 200X feels a lot better when the snow has fallen and I feel like leaning of the side and drifting some dirt road corners. The YT175 is a fun mix it can tow, its super light. Basically all I'm saying is that if I had a 86 200X I might just have to hold onto it and save up for a 250ES or 250SX. In the end its whatever feels best to you. But I know that a 86 200X would feel real fun when just out playing. Also if you ever wanted to get another they are harder to find than the 250ES or 250SX in my area at least. I have only seen a couple 86 200X in a few years of looking on craigslist. Lots of 250ES and 250SX. Give that clutch a chance. It would be really hard to replace if you sell it and then regret it.

I imagine my 350X would pull a 250ES/SX backwards :naughty:
I still have my SX, but it sees no ride time now, it's in a time capsule.......
It's all about how much room and money you have. I'd have 10 trikes if I had the room, but I have to make choices. I have no trailers to drag around so everyone's needs are different.

I thought on it awhile and I would like to be ableto use these taller handle bars but I'm coming up a bit short with my cables. Are there solutions other than buying new? is there any rule of thumb I need to go by when replacing? Thanks.

Thought I would check again about the cables. Do I just measure them and get something longer or does anyone know if other machine would work? Thanks for the input.
