Hello,
I am trying to get the jug off my 1981 Honda ATC so I can get it bored and get an oversized piston in it. I have removed the CDI cover and everything is out but the governor that is in there. How in the world does that get removed? Does it just pull out? Is it threaded onto the shaft somehow? Once I get that out I can to the timing chain.
Your help is greatly appreciated..
Thanks Jim K.

It just pulls off the camshaft after #12 bolt is removed .

It is on there very tight and will not budge. So it just slides on to the cam shaft easily? The springs on the governor are both broke. Can these still be found individually? If this slides onto the shaft loosely I don't see how it would work correctly.

The bolt on mine wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy to remove. Maybe try an impact wrench (although i'd be hesitant to use one on the pulse generator)?

you'd be hard pressed to get just the springs. chances are, youll have to buy the spark advancer assembly (id try to find a good used one, theyre not cheap). it has a locating dowel(or should) on the camshaft that holds it in place. but once you remove the bolt, it should just slide off. you can remove it piece by piece by removing the circlips on the advancer assembly, the just pull the bottom plate off the cam.

Mine was really tough to get off. I had to take a vise grips to it. I wrapped the shaft in a rag and clamped down with the vise grips and it eventually pulled off.
