hey guys, I wanted to show you some pics of my 500R. I just got it running on Saturday. It's a pain to start but.. It's worth it! Billy Golightly built the frame and exhaust for me and did a great job. Thanks Billy for all your help. Your the man :)

That 500 engine is huge! I never realized how much bigger the half liter is. Nice job, I bet that thing is scary fast.

Sounds MEAN! Glad you got it all together. Gotta love the lowend grunt 4-stroke like power that FMF pipe gives it. Just roll on the throttle from an almost idle in 2nd or 3rd gear and up the front wheel comes! Hahaha

I love it.. the low end reminds me of the raptor 660 I had years ago. Then theres the power band that the raptor never had :D

damn if only someone mass produced the counter balancer idea.

I would buy one.. There is a guy on YouTube that made one for a cr500 motor in a trx250r. It looked like it stopped the vibes a lot.

114196114199114197114195114194here is some updates on the 500R. I've been riding it a lot and becuase it's been such a pain to start, I've bought a compression release head it now starts like a 200x.. and because it wheelies so much I put a set of hoosiers on the rear. Check it out =)

I found a guy on ebay that is making them. He doesn't have anymore on there now.. It was $300. for the head or you can send him your head and its cheaper. PM me if you want his info.

Very nice, you did a good job. I think I will have to invest in a 500 project this year some time. To tempting to build a big 2 stroke for the dunes! The vibration is a disadvantage, but after riding my Tri-Z with a lightened flywheel for a year I think I could hang!

No it kicks backwards, I have to take the fender off when starting it.. It's a pain, one day I'll make it kick forward.

The bike is not a finished project. I used the exhaust that came with the cr500 that I bought for the build. It was built wile I was buying a new house,so I didnt have a ton of money to put into it. Now that I'm all moved in.. I can start to finish it. I wanted to know what does a 250r handle like with a +2 to +4 swingarm?

lazybiker79
01-20-2011, 08:37 PM
Trust me , for that much power you`ll want a +6 or longer it keeps the front end down real nice ! Turns good to !:Bounce:Bounce

Very nice bike

N ice bike , put a swingarm and some paddles & do the invasion with that thing ! You need some space to open and air it out ! Is that white sand i see in your backyard ? Show me some spainish moss , aint been there in 20 yrs , largo ! Think of the hillshots !

WOW...where is this at?

Nice scoot. I have a crank that was balanced by these guys

http://www.surfnturfracing.com/CR500%20crank%20balancing.htm

in fact not long after stevo did my crank he wrote that article. I guess he got sick of us 500 dudes pestering him

At low rpm, idle and just above, nothing will get rid of the vibes unless you are crazy enough to build a counterbalancer. I don't spend any time at idle so I don't care. My motor with the STR crank is very nice, believe it or not better than my 2000 CR250 with less than 50 hours total on the bike. Once I get moving it's super smooth. The crank work is the ONLY reason I still ride a 500. I would have sold it long ago otherwise.

Glad you like the head. I'm at seanmx57@yahoo.com if anyone else needs a CR500 head with a decompression valve installed. Mine on a stock compression ration and a fresh bore/piston when from 165 PSI to 135 PSI with the valve engaged. Helps save your foot and the cases too.

Here is pics of the crank and the head. I have a bunch of CR500 motors I'm building as well that will be available soon

Do you bolt that head to a cylinder when you weld the relief valve in?

seanmx57
03-02-2011, 11:58 PM
No. I have a jig that holds the head when it's off the motor.

Different but similar designs have been around for quite a while. I didn't think it up, just copied it after I had one done for me in a different location and I didn't care for the other location. I'll be working on making them cable actuated like a hot start lever on a 4 stroke this summer.

I'll watch the vid at home later tonight, but your very welcome man! I'm ready to try an exhaust again...I got enough pieces here to try once more and see what I can come up with. Some weekend in a few months, bring your bike up here to the shop and we'll see what we can do! :)
