I bought a 350x that a guy torn down to parts and didnt know how to get back together. I bought this project and upon looking at the cam, I noticed the guy had removed the cam sprocket and now I dont know which way the sprocket goes on to make sure the cam lobes are in the right place according to the mark on the sprocket. Does anyone have a pic of the correct way or described which way it is supposed to be. I know the timing mark is suppose to be facing out but I dont know if I have it right or if it needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Please dont reply and say look at manual because I already did but cant tell from the not clear black and white pics. Thanks

page 6-14 shows a pretty clear pic of timing marks and lobe. Timing marks face towards the lobe in that pic.It even has them circled for ya....Beets

Thats not what I am looking for. I know which way the sprocket goes on because it will only fit one way. I am referring to the punch mark on the front of the sprocket. I dont know if that punch mark has to go a certain way or what exactly it is for. It says in the manual to tighten it first since it is the dowel hole, whatever that means.

6-14/6-15 "Install the cam with the punch mark facing up and install the camshaft and endcap" - "Position the cam lobes down and align the timing marks on the cam sprocket with the cylinder head upper surface" -"Realign "T" mark with index mark and recheck the cam sprocket timing marks".

Do you want me to read you a bedtime story too? Maybe we can watch "The Grinch that stole Xmas"..........:D

dirtcrasher is correct, with lobes in a downward position..4 oclock and 8 oclock...the sprocket can technically be 180 deg. out as long as the lobes point down when you time it to the T mark, you will be good. also remember that if the cam chain is streched and/or the guides are worn. it may not line up 100%. just simply time it close enough in the counter clockwise direction (which reflects the wear that may be present)...good luck, ride hard, and always piss the neighbors off !!!! brrrraaaaappppp

I'm not correct - the book is, I do know how to time engines without books and I can also read whats written in a Service Manual. This is one of the reasons the parts are drying up - inexperience. It's not meant to be condescending it's just my personal feelings, I apologize if it sounds like that or a personal attack.

I just hope you don't screw up your motor
