View Full Version : 200s flywheel puller - not threading in.

I cannot get my 200s flywheel off.
This engine ran but smoked. Got the cylinder honed, ordered rings and a gasket set, came back to the bottom end 2 or 3 days later, and magically it decided it wasn't wanting to turn over.
Would barely, LOTS of resistance. It had been fine a few days before, had oil in it. Go figure :(
Now I can't get my flywheel puller to thread into it. Don't see any bad threads or burrs, and I've used this puller on a rusted 185s with NO issue.
Any ideas?

Are you sure the threads are the same?

If the threads are the same, be sure of that
If so, take a small wire wheel on a drill and try to get in at at the threads on the flywheel; being careful no to do any damage to them. Clean the threads up with the wire wheel a little.

Did you remember its left-hand threads?- Just a thought....

If it has large outside threads and a bolt going thru the middle, it's a LH thread on that large portion, RH on the center bolt. But thats a 250R type puller.........Then again I think my 70 uses that puller??, super fine outside left hand outside threads.
I always thread those outside threads in as far as I can and oil the threads on them and the bolt.
An impact gun is pretty much a must have for removing flywheels......
The other type of puller/pusher is usually just a black bolt that goes in the center and presses directly on the crank. I use a toyota truck bolt and the front axle fits some too...

Yep, that's the type it is.
The last 185s I did, just needed a socket/extension and used an exhaust pipe as a breaker bar to remove it.
This one, I cannot physically seem to thread the LH larger (22mm??) part on, even though threads look good on that and the same puller I used.
Going to have to take EVERYTHING off. crank bearings must be bad or something.....just as I get the new top end parts, this happens. Just my luck.
