so i got a phone call today from a guy asking if my 86 200x was still for sale. i did have it for sale about a month ago but decided not to sale it. im trying to figure out if i should sale it i had the x listed at $1400. if i sale it i would be able to fix up my 85 200x the problem is i love my 86 and the six speed trans. my questions 1.should i sale my 86 for $1400 min of $1200 and fix up the 85
2.would i be disapointed with the 85 completly stock compared to the 86 stock

on a side note what are the gear ratios for the 5 speed and the 6 speed that would help me figure out if there is any difference in low end torque as i have never rode a first gen 200x

I'm getting an 86 X, I dont know about the torque, but after riding both, I'd keep the 86. There feels like there's worlds of differance in the first and second gen, and the second gen were just a complete step up anyway, the first gen's running kind of an outdated motor anyway. What shape are the two in?

If I were you, I would REALLY keep the 86 over the 85, but it's your call.

You will be amazed how fast that 85 will burn through $1200 to be anywhere near as nice as your 86 looks.

Don't sell the 86, like said the 85 will go through that $1200 real quick. I estimated the cost of parts doing a full engine rebuild at around $700 with new piston, valves, bearings, seals etc for my 83. And that still leaves the rest of the machine to take care of. If you really want to rebuild the 85 do it slow as money comes in, keep the 86 and keep it maintained. The 86 is a nicer trike, more gears, better engine, also doesn't have the crappy designed kicker gears.

It really doesn't look like that much of a dilemma to me. Why in your right mind would you sell that 86 and keep the 85?

ok so i have decided to keep the 86 and 85. i called the guy to tell him that i dont want to sell it. i asked him how much was he thinking price wise and he said $750 max and i laughed out loud

I owned both at once and all the improvements on the 86 are excellent.

Just think about the kicker gears, valve adjustment, square frame, decompression release, carrier/chain adjustment and on and on.

There are tons of small areas changed......

Your 85 is a pile of parts, and your 86 is looking good. Keep the 86 and ride it! I have over a grand into my first gen 200x to make it look and run nice and mine was much more complete than yours when I started.

the only things im going to be using from the 85 pictured is the grab bar, motor, trips, headlight, headlight guard, and forks. i have another 85 frame with good axle hubs and rims and i have mostly every thing needed to make it a runner. in a year or two i plan on making it a vintage lookalike race trike fully modded as far as i can go.

does anybody know how much i should expect to spend on nos rear fenders for my 86 200x? if i can ever find any.

nos rear x fenders....man prob $400...buy some maiers for $200 and go ride....86 is nice, your lucky to have one. everyones running 83-85's cuz they more popular but got some draw backs...most can be overcome with a few hundresed bucks and having new swingarms and stuff made but the kicker crap is week...even me 02 xr200r kicker slipped everynow and them and that was a 2002...now somthing 19 years older.

i dont want to buy maiers because the only thing it needs is rear fenders seat cover and a small dent taken out of the tank. the dent will be fixed in a week or two and i got a line a nos seat cover for $30 so that leaves the rear fenders to make it perfect.

I have some coming, but I think there is a hole where someone put an aftermarket muffler. So probably not what you want. I am probably going to part most of the bike out, or by a clutch cover and maybe keep it. At any rate I will let you know.

I seen a NOS 86 200x rear fender with decals go on ebay up to 750 bucks and still did not hit the reserve. The maier fenders are not bad.Although, the maier front fender does not has the cable guide and the rear fender sags a little on both sides without extra support.
