I just finished breaking in the motor on my new (to me it an 82) 250R so, i am starting to push the bike more. Well i can around corner and snapped the throttle (did a wheelie) for a second then let off. The bike kept wheelieing and speeding up, before i new it i was off the trail and hard on the breaks and clutch. I have never had a throttle stick before and hope it never happens again.

Cold weather can cause the throttle cable to stick, especially old ones. Properly lube all cables and replace if needed.

Scary stuff. It's hard to keep your head straight at that moment and remember to pull in the clutch.

I plan to lube and inspect the cable. I was sitting on it after i got it to calm down thinking thank god it has breaks (my SX doesn't).

Get a can of pb blaster and spray the cables down. That stuff is magical for $2 a can!

i heard that the throttle sticking down in the carb was a problem with those air cooled R's and actually have a scar to prove it! first day i got my old 84 R i was in tight woods, wheelied over some branches and ended up running up a tree hahah

I'd just replace the cable, and lubricate the new one. Can never be too safe

I am running an air filter, no air box (there is another part i would like to find). I plan to lube it and test the bike on gravel cell tower road near my house. If need be i will replace it.

so if you officially crapped your self I hope you went home and changed. I hate when I officially crap myself due to scary things. Been many years. I didnt even have time to get the crap scared out of me when that truck pulled in front of me this summer. Good thing. Would have been embarrassing for the ride to the hospital and the hours they left me in the hallway. lol
