Best hardtail tires?

I am in need of rear rubber on my 200s.. I want something fairly cheap(about $100) and lightweight. 22-11-8.. Mostly trail use with some occaisonal snow and sand. What you guys running? and how you like? I was thinking of somemaxxis 4-snows or used pro wedge, they look super cool but I fear they may wear out too quickly.. regular dimple knobbies? I really liked the stock tires, but my local tire idiots tore my beads... and i hate tubes.

Knobbies... the cheapest I found was ebay for the 22x11x8's $70+ bucks each with free shipping Kenda Scorpions $144 to my door for 2.

That "Chin Shin" brand has a good cheap 25x12x9 knobby tire, I have them on my YTM200ER and they are great.

try and find some kenda dirtdogs they work great on trails in mud and snow. i have a set of them on my 86 200x with about 45% tread left and they still grip really good there my tire

If you are trying to keep the stock look and still have the stock ride, then it's hard to beat the cheng shin knobbies. They look very much like the stock honda ohtsu knobbies and you still have the cushy factory suspension feel.

yeah i definately like the profile and ride quality of stock.. plus they are super light.. looks dont matter to me much.. I am heavy, know how to ride, and the lil bike isnt very powerful so traction is seldom a problem on the trail... but i would like to have some added bite for when i take it up to the snow.. but not be too aggressive for the sand.

Know anything about the nanco knobbies on ebay?

Sorry, I don't know anything about those. I've had the best luck personally with the cheng shins being closest to stock. Alot of times, if you go with anything else, it really affects the stock ride, meaning a rough ride. You may have to run a different set of tires in different conditions.

nobody has mentioned these but, have you considered cheng shin "Lumberjacks", i'll admit they're not the softest or lightest. just about everyone around here runs them for an "all-around tire" they seem to do pretty well. around here it's sandy river bottom trails, muddy fields and reg. wooded trails.

veal thanks for the input. i doubt i would change tires.. its just a "play" bike. nothing serious, and i only have ones set of wheels for it. its got 300ex hubs and ltr450 wheels. Are these the same cheng shins you have ran?

I like the price and looks of the ams fox.. but i am leary of the radial casing... probably leaning toward cheng shin or duro knobbies at this point. The chengs would save about 40 bucks.

jon boy those lumber jacks would probably work good, but the more i think about it soft and light is a high priority for me on this machine.

I have the chenshin knobbies on pretty much all my 90's and 185. they are cheap and work great. I was looking at the 185 fiesh on service honda, and it still looks like the OEM in available. I might just order some through my shop to see what kind of tires they are.

yeh, those are it, i run them front and back. Im sure you could get them a little cheaper loacaly, 50 seems a little high. I pay dealer price since I work at a motorcycle shop and get them less than half of that
