I can't turn the adjusting screw for the clutch on a 1985 250es. Any ideas on how to loosen it. I tried WD-40 already.

You are supposed to turn it counterclockwise.

Once you broke it free did is spin freely? And it felt like it was adjusted properly? Oddly enough I went to adjust the clutch on the 250ES I just got and it is the same way. There is no need to apply the brakes when you shift, just let off the throttle some and shift. When downshifting I will use the rear brake just so the engine and tranny don't do all the work slowing it down.

I followed the steps in the manual. I turned it counter clockwise until resistance was felt and then turned it clockwise 1/4 of a turn. Thanks for the help.

I mean once you broke the screw loose with the vise it turned smoothly?
