1984 bigred

hi guys happy holidays to you all.i have a few questions on a 1984 honda bigred i bought for 150 bucks(so cool). ok i looked up the numbers from engine and frame on your specs page but no numbers there match numbers on frame or engine on mine.
so i,m not sure how to get the answer for the questions i have.i no its a honda engine and it has electric start and pull start with low hi and reverse so i think its atleast a 1984 engine
ok here is the questions i have. the valves and chain tentioner are ticking slapping.i need to no the correct way of getting the piston at tdc on the compression stroke so i can ajust them correctly.also i need to no if it has a self ajusting cam chain tentioner and if the correct way to adjust it it to loosen the nut not the 6mm nut and will it auto adjust? or is there more to it.thanks any help will be greatly apprecitiated.

ok thanks for the info,it does help but the manual does not tell me how to determain if i,m at tdc on compression stroke will both valves be open on compression stroke or will cam lobes face piston on compression stroke? sorry if i,m asking to many questions just wanna make sure its right so i dont bend a valve.
