Hey bulldozer, sounds like a gummed up carb. Does it seem to bog down the faster you go? Not sure about the headlight. Someone else will chime in.

Try to take off the carb, clean everything. Is there rust in your tank?

Put a voltage meter on the battery, if the headlight gets dimmer with higher RPM then it is probably not generating electricity like it should. Could just be a bad connection.

And rebuild the carb.

Sounds like the two problems are totally unrelated.

I think you may have a couple of problems:

1. Definitely have a fuel delivery problem, clean the carb, and pay special attention to all the little bleed holes and and thing that looks gummed up.

2. Put a battery in it (a good one). And check the ground wire connection, take it off and clean the connection, just don't try to tighten it.

Even if these 2 procedures don't fix your problem; you should check them anyway on any machine that set awhile.
