I drove by a this sled just a few mins ago. and it had a sign on it, glimpsed at it looking for a price (@45mph) all i see was ree no F. i slammed on the brakes. backed up. by the time i got out of the truck guy was walking out of his garage. i was like you for real he said yeah. i was like whats wrong with it, its out of gas. Puzzled i calmly asked thats it, he said yeah. Im still puzzled, we loaded it up. he said wait here's the registration. I asked if it the oil injection still work he said yeah. pulled into the gas station threw a few bucks in the tank. Got home unloaded it, three pulls purred like a kitten. and is a quick little 340.http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk265/miah7c/SANY1670.jpg

Ha Ha Awesome! I just brought home a freebie Poo last weekend myself! My brother-in-laws neighbor had this '83 Indy trail, 440 fanner. Asked my bro-in-law if he wanted it for free. Bro-in-law said sure, whats wrong with it. Guy says it turns over and wouldnt take much to get it going.
Fast forward a year or so.........
Bro-in-law has had this thing sitting in his barn and done nothing with it. Hes not real mechanical. So i ask him a couple weeks ago what hes going to do with the old Poo in the barn. He says i dunno, probably take it to the scrap yard. I said, heck, give it to me then! So he did. I get it home last weekend and the carbs are off but not disconnected from the chokes. So i clean the carbs (which were extremely nasty inside), flush out the fuel tank and BAMMO! She runs like a watch! Just took it for a few laps around the yard last night again, started up 1st pull cold. I dont have a nickel in it other than 3 gallons of fresh gas! I love freebies when they work out!! Ill post a pic in a while...

I haven't gone on any long rides with it yet, but it moves pretty good in the ditches near my house.....I actually got two of them, this one has a twin that is identical in every way(both 1998). That one has less (5,000) miles but has a hole melted in the top of the PTO side cylinder. I suspect a bad crank seal or a partially clogged main jet caused the melt down. I put it in storage and will be doing a full engine rebuild on it this summer...It looks just as nice as this one. The guy I got these from was the original owner of both. He bought new sleds and didn't want to deal with the repairs these two indys needed. He just wanted them out of his garage...It took me about an hour to replace the rear shock on the running indy....not a bad deal at all.
Looks like yours have the smaller track.. mine was a RMK with the longer track and bigger lugs...Really flew through the ditch's...Sounds like the one had a Plugged up main and bad fuel,
Sweet deal at any rate.

The neighbor kid left a Polaris Indy 500 in my driveway on Friday. Does that count? He said it started running on just one cylinder and can't fix anything, so it may just be mine for free if I'm patient.

This guy took insane care of these indys...he washed/waxed the sleds and sprayed/wiped down the suspension components after every ride along with strict maintenance. You actually have to look hard to find a spot of rust or dirt on them,,,they are just super clean machines even with the higher mileage. Even the skid looked like new when I pulled it out to replace the shock. Everything was clean and tight.
