I am searching for cheap 3/4 wheelers for one of my buds ( http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?123479-Auto-Clutch-Newbie-Recommendation-lt-600 ) and came across a nice three wheeler. The dilema is should I pick it up? It is a 87 250sx with a plow (which I dont want/need but doubt I could find anyone remotely local to sell it to) and after speaking with the guy it looks like I can get it for ~$600. He is the second owner (used it to plow driveway for past 3 years) and has been stored inside its whole life. He has no sentimental attachment. Plastics...perfect. Tires look original but not bald. Runs great and nothing wrong. I am giving it a test ride this weekend (work is too busy right now). My ideal two trike household is a 250sx (for the wife or clutch-dumb guests) and a 350x for me. Is this a rare find that I need to jump on (and into the dog house) or something I should just pass up? Thoughts?

600 for an 87 is a great deal. The rear end doesn't take in H2O like the 85's did. I sold a 85 SX 3 years ago in probably worse shape than the one you're looking at for 600. Sounds like a great deal, I'd jump on it if I were you.

I'd be all over that like frosting on cake.

I would be all over that as well! That is a steal for a good 250sx, let alone an 87 with a plow.

I have heard of checking the diff fluid and taking note of cosmetic things (even if they dont matter to buyer) as ways to get the price low. Any tips to haggle a great condition 87 250sx?

Tip # 1... Buy it before someone else does... (dont kick tire too long, at 600 bucks, it will be gone fast...) And that plow you dont want, wouldnt be too hard to sell....

Yeah the only plow within 400 miles of me I have found is going for $400 dollars.

Well, it has been for sale since the middle of December so either 1. It is a three wheeler (niche product) that was posted when people were spending money (X-Mas) 2. He is luring in people to string them up for Jerky.

Ill let you all know how it goes after I ride it on Saturday.

*UPDATE*

Well, it looks like he sold it and and I feel like me posting here someone figured it out and snatched it. When I spoke with him earlier he said I was the second guy to ask him about it. Bah! Keeping my secrets to myself from now on!

at that price you shouldnt have even thought twice about it! 87's are hard to come by especially one in mint condition, in my neck of the woods a mint 87sx would cost prolly 2,000 bucks!

Well, it was 3 hours away so it wasnt like I could scoot across town to pick it up. If it was closer I would have had a sweet 87 now! While riding in my area is great (St Anthony is 40min away, mountains everywhere, desert, open land) vehicle selection is not. I flew out to Portland for my last vehicle, down to Salt Lake before that, Portland before that one, and Boise for my three wheeler. Heck, I will be heading down near SLC this weekend to look at a truck. It makes me giggle when people in higher populated areas (IF isnt tiny at ~60k proper and 130k metro) complain about having to drive 45 minutes to get a vehicle they want. Oh, well!

That would be a good idea......throwing that info out here on an nice 87 with a plow for that price is like throwing raw meat to the lions. Although most of the time "some info is respected".......anything 87 and in great shape for peanuts like that will usally end up violated aka..bought before you can blink. lol Sorry... that sounded to be a heck of a deal, I own an 87 in great shape, it is my wife's. Good luck......

If it makes you feel any better I saw a "Honda 3 wheeler" in the paper for $100. I was already in the dog house so I didn't call right away. Well I called later and he told me it was a 125, e-start, looks like new, runs great, but a guy was coming to look at it in 1/2 hour. Go figure it sold. That's life, grab it while ya can

85 250 es for 175$, there was a cloud of dust from 10 people right on our tail.

85 250sx for 200$ I told the guy that was too cheap and he held it for me for 250$
and he had TONS of calls.
Orig owner, papers, keys and stored inside...tank rusted thru all along the bottom, otherwise perfect.

A friend of mine wrote a program to email alert us the instant keywords pop up on craigslist.

I should call him.

Timing can make all the difference.

I'll email him and see if we can get it.
I wonder if he can have it call a cell phone too?

I paid $225 FOR AN 85 250ES. It was 3 hours away. I had to put rear tires, stator and rebuild the carb.
