hey neighbor, looks interesting
Cool! That pipe look like it'll be easy enough to fit without modifying it's length.
Btw, I always cringe when I see pics of a disassembled engine with a crowbar or hammer sitting near it!

Yes i did the down tube myself. It was a 5" round 1/4" wall tube that i heated and flattened. The exhaust is a DG for a 85 250r that i cut and and turned outward. All the motor mounts are very close to the 200x.

Im working on lowering the back 4". I had to move the upper shock mount back to clear the carb. So the bike sits really high in the back. I was looking at buying the 82 250r durablue axle.

i havent seen a 82 axle but ive seen a 83 250r and a 200x the rear cariers are totaly differnt the 200x swing arm dont look veary strong it would be alot better to use a 83 swing arm and axle there built alot stronger it may be better too cause the shok is in the swingarm and it mounts low so it wont be in the way of your carb and you can use a air box and i realy think your
cr 500 motor will destroy the original swing arm and the chain tenchioners

01-24-2011, 02:07 PM
^83' swingarm sprockets do not line up, it will not work. And all Honda race bikes have the same tensioning system. They are used in the ATC 500R, bored 350x's (400+cc), and even Tecate (with only 1), and they are not destroyed. Just be careful of misinforming someone as it may be very costly and cause difficulty.

I am going to use a durablue axle. 82 250r axle and 83-85 200x are interchangable all u have to do is just have to flip it over.
gumbyspeed
01-25-2011, 02:32 PM
Bad news today! Just found out the 35 tooth rear 200x sprocket that was a key item was discountinued by sunstar. Anybody know where i can find a 35,36 tooth sprocket?
bcredneck
01-25-2011, 04:31 PM
find one from a dirt bike and drill new holes and the 200x i looked at had chain tenchioners on the swing arm bolt a 83 250r has off set rear berings to tighten the chain and you can flip the axle over do what you want but i still think it would be stonger and a smother ride
with a 83r rear swing and it woulnd get in the way of a air filter

sounds like you need swinger built... thats a cool project. How about one built from round tubing, it would be not too pricey and you can put a concentric tensioner on it from a bigger bike.

If the shock is stood up more, it makes it really stiff. I done that on my cb350 conversion and it rode like a hardtail. I had to redesign the dogbone so I could lay the shock back down. The degree of lean has a direct relation to spring rate.
gumbyspeed
02-15-2011, 07:41 PM
im actualy extending the swinger from the pivot side of the shock mount. That will push the mount back and lay the shock down a bit.

Ok its been a lil bit since I gave an update. Well here it is. I took the bike for the maiden voyage a couple hours ago. This bike is quit scary, at 50+ mph I was able to just kick the bike sideways with no effort at all! The power hits like a punch in the face. I tried my best to jet the bike... but I have zero experience doing this (never owned a 2 stoke before). It's crazy to think the bike will be more powerful when it's jetted right. The clutch problem was that the springs were to stiff. It was bending the pushrod. Put in OEM springs and a new pushrod and it's all better.

I suspect the exhaust may cause some jetting/power issues.. I'd try to get a 500 pipe on there.. inframe prefered.. may have to trim some cooling fins..
gumbyspeed
02-28-2011, 06:43 PM
Took the bike out for a snowy ride yesterday. I need to do something about the pipe. Its loud.... crazy friggin loud! I just left of the hospital with high frequency hearing loss in my right ear. Not even joking around.

02-28-2011, 09:45 PM
WOW where some ear plugs... post a video, I'd love to see it.. whats up with the jetting maybe I can help.
gumbyspeed
03-01-2011, 10:34 PM
The bike is a lil boggy the low to mid rpm's. Want to change the pipe to a 500 pipe before i really get into the jetting hard. Does FTZ still make drag pipe? Or should i just do a Pro circuit and trim the fins on the side of the motor?

Ok sorry for not posting anything in a long time, but i got busy with life (im now a father). I have decided to run the bike fulltime at my local 1/8mile track. The bike run the 1/8 @ 101.6mph. With jetting issues, cant open the throttle past 3/4. The bike now sports a FTZ high rev pipe with no silencer.

101 mph on that thing!!!! dang dude, just wow. You need an extended swinger, how hard is it to keep the front end down during passes?

im basicly laying on top of the tank for the whole pass. It needs wheelie bar in the worst way! Tomorrow is race day boys and girls.

Yeah got some new updates. I took it to do some grass dragin. They put me in an outlaw 2 stroke class. I did ok. I was up against people who have like 15k banshees. The wheelie bar makes it a lot less scary and now it brakes the tires lose all through first gear on dry asphalt. Here's a video from the race... of course I miss a shift in the video.
