my friend had me come up to look at what he said was a tecate i show up and it has a gs1000 engine and what suprises me is this isnt a hackjob.
he can buy it for 700$ im not sure about it cause the trike is heavy and i dont know if it can ride trails very well.

the rear sprocket is welded on and about huge, he welded it back on because the motor ripped it right off the spindle.

That thing would trail ride like a POS. They used the motorcycle frame for a good portion of that. Welded sprockets?? (hackjob)

i know they used that frame thanks for bringing it up, he asked me if he should get it. we mostly ride open field and sometimes trails, theres times we make it to the dunes. i wanted more thoughts. dont want to tell him he should get it then turns out we spend more time working on it then riding on it. thanks for the feedback thorpe
a good amount of that trike is from the streetbike. im starting to think that hes better off letting this one pass.
another thing about this trike is its very very bad for jumping and long.

I would take the "it has so much power, it ripped sprocket right off the spindle" story he gave you and compare it to the guy saying "that Honda Killed him"... I highly doubt either statement is the truth:crazy: but that's just one opinion...

I feel kinda sorry for it......like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Kinda hard to see it like that. But it kinda looks cool, IDK. If it was a few hundred dollars it'd be cool to dirt drag iffin' it was cleaned up. Wouldn't drop anywhere near those bones for it. And truly, your buddy needs a real trike for your guy's adventures.

Id rock it for five hunge if it could be had for so.
Looks like a 200x front end,...
Ya its cobbled but it is what it is.
Prob goes like hell in an open field,.. I had a 1982 gsx katana and it was in the realm of 105-110 hp and went decent for a heavy old bike, i suppose this engine isnt too far off on hp.

about the sprocket. i think its the sprocket that was on the street bike. i know for sure the sprocket wasnt from no trike.

Fathers day wkend, DDR has there annual get together in Florence with most members owning trikes. Some of the fastest 250R's on the west coast will be there
I had a conversion last summer, biggest POS I have ever had. It broke 530 chains, ripped sprockets off the rear, and just never had the power cause its driving 2 wheels rather then just 1 on the street bike. Motor sounded great but that was it. No jumping, and turning sucked azz

i need to buy some parts for my 250r, i need the petcock fixed, have to get the rubber seal that controls the gas flow cause the current one is worn to the point you cant turn the gas off then i need a new grab bar because the old one was welded with metal on aluminum by my friend got a crack and finally gave out. i also need a new tube for one of the tires, and soon new tires. thinking about running a 370 kit larger carb and bigger crank. my only problem is i havent been able to get that much money.

Stay clear of any ESR 370 cylinder. It's the worst cylinder for the liquid R known to mankind. If your idea is to go fast, 330 or 350 is must better, or the CPI Puma is the ticket, but if money is an issue, then pass on the Puma. There are Puma powered Honda's at the DDR get together if you have a desire to watch them run :D

thanks fot telling me, i will have to come out sometime and check everything out. i have lots of toys i want to buy some more important than most, this summer i should be able to get everything straight and make money. i seen someone run a 370 but never ridden one and have very little knowledge on them.
i bet those banshees stay clear of those R's, everytime i have went to the dunes i see nothing but banshees.
a puma R would kill a banshee, i seen a jetted R eat them up too many times.

Well, there are stock banshee's then there are us crazy's that build them for the reason as you just described so no Honda will run with our twins. My Puma powered Honda would not touch my Banshee even on the Honda's best day...On a normal day, you'll see mostly banshee's with just pipes, maybe a swing arm and no port work, but on a big wkend, most single cylinder bikes stay clear of the big twin's.....
I had a 370 powered trike on gas...it was not fast !

why is that? too many cubes for the platform to support?

that gs1000 the guy has, my friend said hes getting it, the guy bragged about how it beat up on a saber banshee. the banshee got a good distance ahead in the start but the gs1000 ended up spraying right past the banshee. i dont believe stuff like that unless i see it but i told him straight up(my friend) that this trike is going to be a ***** on trails. and the dunes is going to be 1 of the only places that trike will be able to perform well in. tuesday he is going to test it out, i told him before you even think about buying it you need to test it out.
im going to let him decide. i looked at it again today and i tipped it up then put it down and the axle wiggles in the swinger about an 8th of an inch i said thats going to be a problem. i pointed out all the possible troubles and he still wants it, he has a job at the parts shop up the street they also repair older trikes and quads, mostly dirt bikes and street bikes, theres an old INDIAN street bike sitting in the room there its pretty cool. he has a nice inventory to mod this one out. another thing is the trike only has tecate fenders and the frame and swinger are from the street bike then. this is going to be a money pit and needs a lot of work. but the trike isnt that bad and 700 is a good price. the engine has 30 hous from last rebuild by what the owner said, he has ridden it for 5 years he said. i dont believe anything without proof though. but i did warn him and thats all i can do.

:crazy:I saw that trike on crlist for 1000 !!trailprotrailprotrailpro that moter looks good ,i thought abuot it for a couple seconds ,then decided not to even call . it needs a banshee swingarm axle and sprocket ,plus extra length on the swinger then it" might " be good for drags:naughty::lol: but nothing else there are several decent 250r on the list now that would be way better and possibly last longer . buy a r or a, x !!! your freind will be way better of without a hack job that cant ride trails . that moter could be good for a jap chopper project or a street trike if he has title otherwise just a waste... see you around you ever ride jones creek or browns camp ?? good luck:Bounce:Bounce

saber banshee ??
Now thats funny..another reason to avoid IMO. It wont be as fast as you think in the dunes...a decently built 330 will run away from it till 70 mph

not clear what your asking here...If its too many cc's for the tranny, then no, I have been running quite a few more cc's without any problems for over 3 years now

exactly, those motors are not super power houses like people believe, 80hp tops hell, 150hp modern sportbike's rear spockets are only held on my 5-6 M10 studs, and they are not tearing off sprockets.

ok so it never was the engine. the guy lied, well thats not a bad fix just grind off the welds and make a custom setup. i have to call my friend and see if he bought it yet.

95 horsepower, I used to own a GS1000E, an absolutely great bike, 90 mph in second gear. That being said it is way to heavy to be a fun trike to ride on trails. It will be almost as heavy as two 250R. Also that swinger was never designed for side to side loads, it was meant to have a tire in the middle.

whats up? did your freind get this"pos"and how does it ride ? just wondering cus the last conversion i got 750 yamaha was awfull ended up taking all the 350x pats off and ditchin the rest for cheap.

That thing is a POS.
The fenders are green 83/84 250R fenders. I suspect the front end. axle etc are all 83/4 R gear.
It will be too heavy to ride, the rear end is under engineered, the sprocket alignment/running angles must be up the duff.
I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. Unless of course I was after green fenders for an old R.

I wouldn't want anything to do with that backyard engineered machine. Even parted out it won't make you back much money.
It probably tore off the sprocket because he either use small bolts or forgot to tighten them; Only he knows what happened.............

i called him up and he didnt pick it up yet. my unc has a banshee built up and told him if he buys it that he's going to race him. i need to call him again and see if he still is trying to get it.
i think its way too heavy and a gs1000 just isnt the right motor. a r1 would be thought of, its lighter and i seen one ran in a raptor.
but in a trike im not sure.

yes. but thats also a good conversion. if he wants a street bike motor in a atv/atc a r1 would work out better but still be heavy.
