I know, I know, Shat appp!!!! :p but in my defense i got rid of all my parts bikes and only have a 200x nearly done, my hot rod 200e and now this.
I picked up a 1984 200ES BigRed.
Story:
The bike belonged to the lady's grandpa that I got it from. She and her ex went to get the ATVs and this ATC from the family farm when the Grandpa passed away last year. Her ex was into tinkering with ATVs and thought he would fix it up. The are now waiting for the finalization of their divorce and she wants the space in her garage. She posted it on Craig's List for $75. that's how much she paid for the pull start her ex said he needed to make it run. So I paid her the $75 and talked for a while with her.
Dudes, let me tell ya, She's amazing. She's as beautiful inside (mind and personality wise) as she is physically. Whom ever she dates her will be a very lucky guy. Anyway she told me the story of the bike and all that. She didn't want to part it out and I was the only one that didn't ask anything but can I come get it.(she doesn't know anything about mechanical stuff)
Here is how the correspondence went.
email from me: So you still have it? I'm very interested in getting it
from her: yes I'll be home xx:xx time Call me after xx:xx time.
I did all that then did not hear, her sister's kid came a week early and she was at the hospital with the family working the birth of the new baby. That's cool i congratulated her via txt and thanked her for her reply.
Last night I go to get it and I'm stoked. new tires!!!!! good shape! and complete!!!!
As soon as I got up I started working on it. I felt like a kid at Christmas!
I turned the fuel on the peacock on and it spit fuel. the line was old and had a big crack. so I made a list as I troubleshot the bike.
1- new fuel line
2- new power cable (old one was broken off battery connector)
3- replace starter solenoid for good measure
4- replace starter (old one is rusted locked solid)
5- rebuild carb (open bleed screw on bottom and no fuel this says the float is stuck so the carb needs a rebuild.
Good thing is I have the following as spare parts for my hotrod 200e. (will replace as these are harder to find)
1- new starter solenoid and power wires and even starter power cable with fuses.
2- good starter
3- 200E carb kit. (200e and es use same kit)
So I purchased fuel line, and went at it.
replaced fuel line and even added a filter.
replaced all the positive battery wiring with new 200E stuff I had
digging around for 200e starter in garage. (it's a mess right now so it's hard to find. lol)
Now the nest stuff ended up on the list after I added more acid to the battery and charged it. I learned it's not getting power to the lights and oater parts of the bike. A lot of people just toss the old stuff out and don;t repair it. this stuff was in mint shape. the internal contacts were just dirty, so I took apart the power/light/starter switches yes even the contacts and cleaned everything. I checked all soldering connections then reassembled. BTW, if you look at my Sig, there is a link to bike manuals. there's a section on my site for articles I have written. one of them is switch rebuilding in case you wanna try it. I also did rebuild the key switch as well. once done, lights worked perfectly and everything was tight as it should operated like new!!!
what's left?
Find my spare starter and isntall, then rebuild carb. Do that and I'll have a awesome running trike! The front forks are locked so I'm goig to have them redone. Gotta find someone who does it. ocne i ride it and ensure it works proeprly, I'll park the bike inthe corner and start to slowly take it appart redoing it. I'm relaly going to do a restore on this not showroom, but nice. I want to make sure the forks are done correctly as I want them to last. I cannot find a set of 84 ES as some of the ebay idiots post the 200e fronts as the ES which are different. The ES has steel housing and the E had alloy. the ES has bigger fork tubes and internals.
I'm adding photos as well for you guys to see my $75 purchase.
I forgot to add. the first pic is how i foudnthe bike, the rest are of me working on it. The last is of the power/light switch in parts.
