Hey there...

Just wondering if someone out there could provide me with some information on how to dissassemble the rear-end of this ATC 90?

Pretty much have everything apart, but not sure what to remove next...big nut on right side? Studs holding sprocket?

Trying to strip the bike down for resto.

Any help would be much appreciated. Got my eyes on a service manual...but won't be here for a while. If anyone has one they would sell, lemme know, or if there is a copy on PDF also.

Thanks!

Big nut on the right comes off next. Once you have it all apart, it all slides out from the left side where the sprocket is. Make sure you have all the tension backed off on your rear brake shoes. The rear brake shoes usually cut into the rear brake drum and if you don't have all the tension backed off of them, then what happens is the rear brake shoes won't clear the ridge they have cut into the brake drum and the brake drum won't come off. Been along time since I pulled the rear out of a us90. I know there is a downloadable maual on here somewhere. The same board member always chimes up for the manual downloads. The manual is a life saver. Best of luck on your resto.

I thought manuals were in the world class help section.

and yes to agree w/ vm, brake pads can and do hold the drum on like it's still bolted on.

That's great! Thanks for the helpful info.

The thing I would like to learn next, is how to set points. I've been told how easy it is by many backyard mechanics (even as to describe using cigarette paper as a feeler guage)...but I haven't been overly successful as of yet.

All the best!

Alright...so I tried to tackle the rear-end disassembly last night...and I'm unable to get that nut loose with the tools I have. Tried heat, WD40 soak, vise-grips, channel-locks...etc. Tried to be gentle...but now I know that I need the correct tool...and I don't have the correct wrench. How do you hold the sprocket side of the shaft?

What size socket / wrench does it take? Something larger than 30mm from what I can tell.

Thanks.

I usually leave the axle in and the left tire on. I sit on the left tire and squeeze with my legs, then use a giant crescent wrench with a piece of gas pipe on it for extra leverage... works every time.
