Are the 85 and 86 350X tanks the same? Anyone know of a good source to have a tank re-painted with proper decals? And when the decals are applied do restorers clear coat over the decals to help preserve them? I know some people have had trouble with decals coming off on the plastics, hoping that won't be the case with a metal tank!

You have to ask them to clear coat them over the decal. then they last 25 years. They may want YOU to place the decals exactly where you want them.
If you have a nice metal tank, it will never fall off or come loose once clear coated; Getting them in the correct position is the tough part.
Plastic tanks let fumes out and have to be Kreemed or Red Coated prior to any decals being applied.......
In the end you will have a super nice tank, worth some bucks so NO CRASHING your knees into it

I know it is a hard tank to find in this condition. Its off of a 86 350X, the previous owner painted it red! Anyway the inside still has the factory gray/silver with no signs of rust. It would be hard to have it done right and then put it on a rider! Maybe one day I'll turn one of these into something better than a rider and have the tank on a shelf til then. I did see sycho's tank thread but got the impression he wasn't doing tanks anymore. I was hoping to find someone near me in NY. Thanks for the replies!
