Just curious- I've always wondered whats the deal with the shortage of right side shrouds? There is plenty of left sides available (new or used)? -BTW just saw a set for $400 on ebay. WTF?

Right side is discontinued and hard to find. That set for $400 is a used set with both shrouds in pretty good condition. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the right side being discontinued and the left still available.

thats pretty dumb to stop making 1 side. only real answer would lead to a phone conversation with kawasaki. maybe they lost or damaged a mold and dont feel like replacing it.
somone on here had black shrouds from DC plastics, they looked cool

Just an opinion but here goes... Kawasaki likely as many manufactures do, made a set number of extras, with the radiator cap being on the right side is is more likely to become broken, it also has the pipe on that side so more likely to get burnt/melted and more were sold eventually selling out before the left... the term discontinued is a blanket term, I would imaging that ALL the 86/87 Tecate plastic has been "discontinued" its just that Kawasaki has yet to run out of it... That's my somewhat logical guess/explanation

This is a great and logical theroy but, the last set of Tecate fenders i bought came from kawasaki new in a seald box the had "made in usa" on the tag... now i'm not saying your wrong or that they were made in america but it did make me think about it.... i can promise you they were not 20 years old either... who knows...

The ones hornet Powersport make are top quality and I can highly recommend them. $400 for a set is a bit rude, but until someone else steps up and starts making repo's thats what we are stuck with.
My theory on the shrouds go something like this. The right shroud is a "B" part number. Meaning both Shrouds share the same part number, although the right shroud is the same part number but with a letter suffix at the end.
Kawasaki, as they wind down spares production, would probably discontinue B numbers in the first phase. all the other parts will eventually drop off as demand dries up. Keep buying plastics boys. I don't want to live in a world where I can't get new plastic for my Tecates...........
P.S. those DC tank/shroud combos look ordinary IMO. I can't wait until they make proper shrouds.
P.P.S. If someone wants to do us 86/7 owners a favour, make a hard plastic tank cover like the ones they made for the 84/5 guys. Unless of course they want to put their balls on the line and make proper Tanks.

Here is my theory on why no right and why no more headlight shroud . I don't know if any of you guys realize this but the left and right Shrouds are not mirror image of each other like the 85 86 Honda 250r's are . The right Hand has a Radius on the bottom that matches the radius on the pipe . The left does not have that radius on it . Plus the mount hole in the middle of the shroud is located in a different spot which means the decals are not mirror image (I learned that the hard way when reproduction my decal kit ) I am thinking Kawi told he supplier to run X amount of each part lets say 5 k of each . Well it is possible that the right hand shroud and headlight shroud mold tooling broke before they reached the end of the run . Then by the time the tooling was fixed Kawi like everybody else pulled the plug on 3 wheelers so they had no reason to run the balance of the short items . I also read in a old 3 wheeler magazine that had a article on the 1987 Tecate that Kawasaki made a change to the rear fender to stop the rubbing problem .My Guess is the rear fenders will run out last because they made a change to them and did another run . I have also been on a few parts websites lately that have note by the front fender that denotes(low stock) so I think the front fender is next to bit the dust . The good news is we got guys like hornet powersports and maier that are able to reproduce this stuff . I have not had my hands on honets stuff but I can tell you Maier plastics have come a long way and now rival the oem plastics . Back when Maier started out in the 80's making plastics it was well"crud" and not much more durable than fiberglass . The key to getting them to make this stuff is picking up the phone and requesting it . The squeaky wheel gets the grease and if they feel there is a market they may be more likely to re run some of this stuff

I'm confused. Hornetpowersports do make repro's that in my opinion are top notch so what is it that you are longing for?

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the right side being discontinued and the left still available.Back in the 80's, when the factories raced these bikes on flat track ovals, they raced in a counter-clockwise fashion (all left-hand turns). These left-hand turns exposed the right side radiator shroud to all the roost from the 250R's, which were always out front. Consequently, Team Kawasaki was frequently replacing the right-hand radiator shrouds on the Tecates, thus the cureent shortage for these parts. :D

John, if you read my whole post there should be no need to be confused.
I have a set of hornetpowersports shrouds and they are top notch. I highly recommend Hornetpowersports and his shrouds.
There was, at the time of writing, a set on Ebay going for $400 dollars. Without other options (other than Hornetpowersports shrouds) thats what these things will go for. Its just a case of supply and demand.
It is interesting to note that since this thread got some air time, there are more sets for sale on Ebay which are substantially cheeper.
So in answer to your question, I'm not longing for shrouds. I hope this post makes more sense?
