Seems like every utility trike i find has some kind of clutch problems. Im wanting to build a motor for my auto-x and my friend has a motor but it has clutch problems. If i get this motor off of him I will most def have the manual handy but what i really need is some trouble shoting on whats going wrong with these things. Ok here is some problems ive seen alot of, when you shut it off it makes the free wheeling winding down sound, trying to push start it it just pops out of gear as soon as the wheels start to turn, pops out of gear randomly but most likely when goin up a hill or pulling something, slips like crazy, takes awhile to engauge in the next gear after you up shift. sooo.. what causes some of these problems? what specific parts of the clutch assembily are broken or worn to cause this. Please help me out guys

One way clutch on centrifugal clutch wore out and centrifugal clutch shoes worn or grooves worn in drum. Anybody correct me if I am wrong but I think what I said fits the description.

Adjustments can never hurt anything. I always take the time when changing my oil to adjut my clutch.

Ok diggin into a old thread but I'm still interested in this topic. I downloaded a manual for the 185/200 and I've been searching on here for a bit. I think I have come to the conclusion (correct me if I'm wrong cause I want to know) the reason a bike would pop out of gear if you was trying to push start it would be from the one way clutch and shoes? Does the one way clutch do anything other that let you push start a machine? I would image the slipping in gears would be from worn disk in the clutch pack. Just trying to figure it all out. A friend has a old bike that need a new top end and the only way to get it to run would be to push start it and now he cant even do that, every time we try it just free wheels no matter what gear my try to start it in, shifts threw all its gears fine when its running though(if it ever starts needs rings major bad!)

One way bearing in the centrifugal (primary) clutch is bad. Replace that and it will work fine....... The problem is not with the clutch shoes. There is a bearing inside the primary clutch housing that rides on the crankshaft. When working properly it should only let the clutch freewheel on the crankshaft in one direction. The opposite direction it should lock up and turn the crankshaft. Thats why you are having trouble pull starting
