Length of pull starter rope?

The exact length is not important. About a 4ft rope will do. You need to make sure that the recoil has tension on it before you start winding your rope around it. Turn it a few times without the rope, then start turning it some more while feeding the rope around it. If your rope is longer this is better because you'll most likely end up with a tighter coil. If your rope is short, you will just have to turn it more times before you start feeding the rope around. Good Luck.

The notch in the pully is so you can wind it after the rope is in it. Why fight it with tension already on the spring. Tie the rope in it, wind it until it has good tension, let it pull the rope in and then cut the rope where needed and install the pull handle.

i usually use as much rope as will fit. I like to get a full pull without fear of the handle ripping out of my hand or snapping the rope..

The notch in the pully is there so the rope stays attached to the pully and you don't just rip the rope right out when you start it.

Yea actualll i heard if u use a big rope it over cranks it and can damage.. Idk Hear say

any way you can wind it up, Nice and tight about 9 or 10 turns or more clamp it to hold it. Feed rope threw and tie, Then slowly let the recoil of the spring slowly rewind it back in after u attatch the handle..
Just wasnt sure if it will damage sumthing,, And 4ft will work? Because thats what i used..

Yes you can, but that is the hard way. Look at your pulley and around the side will be a half moon notch machined in it. This is to fit the rope into so you can wind the spring after the rope is tied in and you do not have to wind and clamp as you say. Also you can add tension to a recoil without cutting the rope loose if it is a little lazy winding back in.

I do not even know what to say about a big rope overcranking it.....???????

Maybe Honda SHOULD explain this in the manual. I have never looked.

okay yea thank you iron. Um not saying you are wrong, Just that this is the only way i have ever did it. I didnt know there was another way.. have to try it out i guess..

Thanks again guys..For the overcranking idk hearsay like i said but, seems legit. idk what that would do though exept for damage to the pullstarter or spring itself..

What seems legit about it? The pulley will only properly hold a certain length of rope.. and the spring will easily handle that...
