So im restoring my 83 R and i ran into a problem with my Exhaust. New DG head pipe and silencer calls for use of all old hardware. Problem: Where the silencer connects to the head pipe there is a OEM seal that goes there that i do not have and is discontinued.
The guy at my local bike shop told me to use a High temp radiator hose and a nice set of clamps to make it look clean. Sounds like a quick and easy fix BUT Has anyone tried this? Wont it melt? The guys said he has done it on 2 stroke bikes before.

Pretty sure radiator tubes would get hotter then a exhaust would but idk.. seems ok

Your cars thermostat most likely opens and maintains 190 degrees.
The exhaust is a heck of a lot hotter than that.

It will work with no problem, this is only to seal the end of the pipe / stinger with the beginning of the silencer.

Every single one of my bikes has this. I promise you it wont melt
I have used a radiator hose on my 87 T3 w/o any problems. i used a long piece to protect the NOS overflow bottle. Works great, never a melting problem.

Very nice! What hose are you using?
i dont remember, i asked if i could go outback of a advanced auto parts, w/ my silencer, i just looked for a hose that fit w/ the straightest run. think it was only like $10 too.

Yea i figured a Radiator hose would work.. I mean as long as you dont have it for a Head Pipe should be fine.. Also use sum JB weld.. Works i think.. Aslo a exhaust repair called seal all..
Works fine to.. cheap like a buck or two.

For some reason I thought he meant his headpipe, not the silencer connection. I even had that as a kid om my RM250........

Do not use JB weld on an exhaust system, it dries up and crumbles. Seals All is a glue that you can glue about anything but exhaust.
