So last summer the 81' 200 motor in Tasha's 85' auto-x seized. I sprayed down the cylinder with WD right after it happened, somebody said sometimes they'll break loose. I've tested the motor off and on several times by pulling the cord, but it never moved. So we pull the 85' 200s donor trike in the garage and start prepping to swap, and for the hell of it I pull the cord.....it let go. Compression and the motor is turning over, nice and smooth, WTF? It must've seen the donor and decided to cooperate (?). Now, how ever, I have no spark. Swapped out the ignition coil and capacitor still nothing. So I need help. I have no idea what's the deal here (?????). This has got to of happened to someone, but I am stumped, lol, I tested that thing alot over the last 6 months or so and it was always froze :wondering.

Sounds like something may be grounding out. My 250R had a similar issue when I first brought it home. The guy I got mine from had rigged a whole lot of different things on it over the years and believe it or not one of the wires that runs to the taillight had pinched and was contacting the frame. After I capped it off it suddenly started sparking again. I ended up tearing the entire bike down and going through it from the ground up. Replaced all the electrical system. That's my experience with spark loss and being a weird issue/problem. Maybe your issue will be similar, especially since it sounds like you have already checked off the common or normal potential trouble points. Good luck hope you find it quick and it turns out to be an easy fix

:Di think the pullstart may have been binding up , my autox 85 200s moter has a similer problem with the spark when pulling the pulllstarter you dont see a spark :mad:especlly when cold ,but put a fresh plug pull the trike 50-60 feet in second gear fires right up:p then after warm will start first pull, :cool:week later same prob but if riden daily starts easy ,:p but not used that often the boys like the clutch.:D i would check the wires real good the change the :idea:cdi box , try the tow start before swicthing moters , did you start the doner yet? it may be the stater but i duobt it,good luck keep trying.:beer

before spending any money on stuff you dont need cut the kill wire close to the cdi if that dont work go to walmart and buy a ac/dc test light dc=red light ac=green light first hook the clip on a motor fin then test the stator wire if that works test the kill wire if it glows you got power to the cdi then try the coil wire it should blink when you pull the rope if it dont test the pulser coil with a ohm meter if the coil wire dose blink when you pull the rope you need a coil

also try cleaning the contacts in the "pickup coil" on the motor under the cover that says cdi. was a common problem on all our 200's

in my sig is a link ot manuals it has a ton of troubleshooting tips.
could be plug wire, plug, stator assembly, harness, conenctions, etc.. start with taking everything off so you can reach what you need. then start from the stator and work your way back. you'll find it. also as stated, the pullstarter screews have a tendency to start to back out, you have to use locktight (recommend blue so you can remove later) to ensure the basket bolts do not loosen up and cause issues. Happened to me on several trieks till I started using blue LT. no more issues.

O.k., this really helps guys. Some tips on here that I didn't experience or read about before. What's strange is we had lots of hours on this and Tasha was riding and it just quit. When trying to start the rope stuck, so I figured a siezed motor. I took off cap and sprayed with WD. This rig did see alot of water crossings, specially that day in the mountains. Just to think the pull starter stuck at the same time as the electrical going wrong freaks me out. Lol, as everyone knows, I have no luck with Hondas, lol, they just hate me, lol.

pull start 200s are bad in water cause water gets to the stator you could have burnt it out have you tryed a test light yet

the pull start locking up could have been the stator coming loss under the flywheel had that happen to me once big mess ripped mags out

I think you may have hit the nail on the head there bcredneck, that sounds about right. Been sitting here today wondering wich road to start on. I'll pull that off 1st and check it out.

id say about 75% of the time you dont got spark and your wireings good its the stator if you get size 33 mag wire you can rewind em ive done one and didnt tighten the screws good thats why my step bros 185 has points now

Un hook the black with red striped wire coming from the stator and check the ohm reading ( on the wire from the stator ). If I remember correctly it should read in the 190-240 range ( 200-240 is better ). If it does check good then you can almost 100% rule out the stator.
