Hi Folks! I'm working on my Loncin powered 84 200x. I have a Bassani pipe for it I bought off eBay a while back. I have a couple of questions about it - please help if you can,
Should there be a clamp where the head pipe joins the muffler? Is it a stock Honda clamp of some sort? The pipe/muffler are significantly bigger than the stocker on my other X.
Should the Bassani use the exhaust mount by the rear master cylinder? I'm not sure how it would.
Thanks!

the bassani that i bought had nothing more than a hose clamp to secure the head pipe and silencer. the silencer was secured through the origional grab bar location, but the other mount by the master cyl was not used. ive been using mine this way for a month or two now with no trouble.
your going to love the bottom and mid range power this pipe adds

Mine bought new in 1985 is mounted exactly like big red hemi described. Back then the only pipe that was supposedly better was the Curtis Sparks one with the two stage headpipe.

Nice looking X there! I'm interested to see how you like that motor. The bracket on the left rear of the frame is that for a battery? Details! We need details!

I've got one on my 84. It was there when i bought it and it uses a hose clamp between the head pipe and silencer.

Hi guys - thanks for the info - I'll just use a clamp between the two pipes. I think I found a nice stainless T-bolt clamp to do the job.
This was originally going to be an auto-X. However, both my 200s engines needed work so I bailed on that plan.
I'm using the OHV engine because I bought a whole Chinese dirtbike for $180 and the engine isn't even broken in. I wanted the OHC, but for that $, I wasn't picky. I'd prefer to have an Honda X engine, but this was too good to pass up. I'll use the brake masters and some other stuff off the dirt bike, too. I figure if I sell any parts from the dirt bike - like the new tires for example, I'll come out ahead.
The bracket on the frame is for a TRX 400EX battery box. I wanted to keep my airbox because I like airboxes so I needed a place to put the battery. The dirt bike came with a 4AH battery that could not consistently start the engine. I figure the 9AH TRX battery should do the job. So I made a simple bend and welded it on along with a couple of other tabs to mount the TRX box.
I put grease fittings on the steering head, swingarm pivot, and rear axle. I thought about the front axle, too, but got lazy and skipped it.
I painted the frame with a BC/CC over epoxy primer. Any blue paint is Rustoleum.
I stripped the black off the 84 forks when I rebuilt them and had them straightened.
Saving for plastics for both my X's...
