Sorry if it's a simple answer, but I need to adjust the valves on my 1984 200es, and I never have, and am wondering what I'll need, and what to do.

You need to download a free manual and read it. Knowledge is power, I may be down I my luck now but there isn't anything I cannot fix aside from TIG welding.

TDC, compression stroke, gap may be .003. I could walk you through it as well as someone else but that won't help you understand how an engine works.

You don't want to be in the 25-50% failure percentile I see happen when guys do it on a wing and a prayer. You'll feel much better after reading the section in "routine maintenance" and THEN asking questions............

Yea actually i'd pick up a manual from some 1 here on the site, They help 100%.,
But there will be a tool you will need that Dirt didn't say about it's called a
"Feeler Gauge"

He needs more than that. Along with many others, they need to understand what there doing, what the adjustment is for, why is it necessary, what if it's still noisy after adjustment??

It's not my dime, I just like to hear when someone has a clear understanding of what their doing.

Merely tightening the locknut can change that feeler gauge adjustment without a tiny wrench to hold it. Many people don't know that.

They also don't know if it should slip in, slide in with resistance or get very tight when adjusted.

It's similar to spoiling a kid, they never learn to do anything themselves and expect help. And that is in no direct reference to this OP.........

I just want you guys to all enjoy your well maintained trike and learning something while doing it may change your career choice, who knows...... :beer

Thanks, I'd rather try myself and learn how to do it myself, than spend a fortune having it done.

Who said spend a fortune? Who asked for money? The downloadable service manuals are free.

Good luck.
