Well I got my new battery finally and put it in.The lights work now but it still doesnt want to start/or turn over.No selenoid popping or anything(has brand new starter too).....As I said in my other thread I ran it for 5 minutes(with new cylinder head on),then I shut if off to go inside then went back out a little later and it wouldnt start! Spark plug was slightly black but not bad and was wet.
Could it be I just need a new plug?I had to use the choke quite a bit to get it started the first time plus I used it on the second attempt....
I have a new spark plug on the way, should be here tommorrow.
OR my kill switch crapped out the last time I turned it off???

Is your neutral light on? Not sure what year big red you are talking about. I had a lot of stress with my 250 big red's switch until I took the cover off under the foot brake and cleaned the contacts with the brake cleaner and re-attached.
Mine would not turn over even though it was in Neutral but the green neutral light was not on.

Its a big red 250es, 1985.Its in neutral but the lights dont even work for the neutral/reverse because the bulbs are toast ....Something is keeping it from wanting to even turn over. Its not locked up and it has good commpression, its like im trying to start it with the kill switch off and the key off,but both are on.....
The lights work when the on/off switch is off but the key is turned on.I dont know if its supposed to do that because ive never really payed attention to it....

my 85 250 es had a bad neutral safety switch ($12 locally), but it would start with the kick.
NSS only prevents the starter from running.
unless mine got modified somehow.

key on should send juice to the lights.
Kill switch on;ly kills the spark BUT there is also part of the grounding kill circuit that may provide ground TO the cdi so it will run.
In other words, that kill ground also makes it run, if that makes sense.
You just need good light, a clear wire diagram and time totrace it all.
I bet it's just your neu safe switch..and then maybe the solenoid.
You can ground the nss to the case with a piece of wire..nothin fancy because it only has to touch ground while it's cranking then it can hang loose while running.
Very dangerous and not recommended because it WILL start in gear with that setup.

check the fuse by the battery that could be the problem.

I went out and looked at this and that area was loaded with dry mud.I cleaned it out and hit the start button and it started on the first push, no choke. After not being ran good for about 2 months I thought it would be a pain to start and id have to choke it alot....Sounds great and feels like a different machine. You saved me alot of hassle acellr8,thanks very much sir.
