I picked this up the other day, I don't know why other than I have no self control. It's an 85 350X with a CR250 engine. Suppose to run but has no carb. It has good compression but that's as far as I checked. I really just wanted the engine for a CR rolling chassis I had sitting it the shop for awhile. The frame has been cut and a 2 stroke cradle has been put on it, not the worse work I've ever seen but not very good either. What's still left of the 350x looks to be pretty good, except the seat and rear fenders. It has what looks to me to be a huge tank, plastic but it looks to fit pretty good. I don't know much about the 350's, having only ever seeing 1 in person but I thought it had a metal tank. I got some extra parts in a box with it. I might part it out or something, I might even go with it after I find a carb and ride it. To make it right with this engine would be that hard but I don't know that it would be right for the chassis. It got surrounded before I took pics cause I move some stuff around last night to get to another bike and the pics aren't very good but it shows the bulk of the trike.

I also got these 70's last week, just unloaded them and pushed them to the back of the shop too. I have no plans for them either.

If you do decide to part it out let me know, I need a tailight and hardware including bracket and also need front brake lever

Is that the right tank? The shourds don't fit right and it looks too big but the seat fits it good.

The original tank is metal. This is an aftermarket plastic tank.

Are the 350X front ends better than 200X fronts? I might put the front end on my 200X and just part the rest of it out.

I'd hate to say to part it out, I think if you could find a frame and a 350x engine for the right price you could have a good runner (tons more power than a 200x)

Like I said, I just got it yesterday and still considering the possiblities. I want to start it and ride it as is first, just need a carb to do that. It's possible that I'd redo some of the rough work and leave it as a 250 2 stroke, but a 500cc stroke engine and put in it (there is plenty of room above the 250 head or just part it out and help keep other 350X's on the trails. I've gotten some interest in some of the parts but I've never paid any attention to what 350 parts are worth. If anyone is interested in parts enough to send me a PM include what you're willing to pay for the items. I will be fair if I sale anything but I just don't know what anything is worth on the bike. I'll try to get it pulled back out tomorrow and get some better pics of the bike. I was checking the VIN today and looking behind the headlight upside down, mis counted the digits and looked at the 11th digit which was an M but mistook it for an H. When I did the math I though it was an 87, my heart litterly skipped but as always, not an 87. That would have been worth restoring though. Is the XR350 engines common to the ATC350X? I have some XR350 stuff from back in my riding days, maybe even a frame.

I say get it running and fix it up a bit, it would make an interesting mutt

Is the XR350 engines common to the ATC350X

similar but different. the 350x motor has a single carb vs the xr's dual carb setup for one. Cams may be interchangable and few odds and end things but idk really.

if you can get it riding with the cr motor that'd be pretty cool, basically a 250R with 350X suspension, which may leave something to be desired depending on how you ride it. the CR250 motor isn't counter balanced that I know of so it'll very vibratey (its 2am i'm aloud to make up works :P)

i think its a cool machine.. I'd tidy up the customization work til you're happy and run it.. Is the CR250 from an '84??

Why not go down the route of fitting an xt500 engine in her? Not sure if that's an easy task on a 350x though but the engines look similar? I understand u got the complete wrong cradle in her at the moment, but everyone loves a challenge right?!!! Ha ha

I got it back out in the open today and took some more pictures. I couldn't restist the urge to try and start it. I dipped a little 2 stroke mix down in to the intake boot and if fired first good kick. I admit I like the oil burners and when that thing fired it was good. I scared the crap out of me cause it was so loud and unexpected but still awesome. I'm going to put a carb on it before anything else. I've got to see what it's like with that engine in there. I took a better look at the modivacation today and they don't look bad, not pretty but the frame looks straight and the welds look strong. I still plan on using the engine in the Cr chassis but with the cradle in and the room that's left this my end up up a CR500 engine. I'm going some work for a guy that collects and restores open class bikes and I think he has an "extra" engine. Here's the pics:

A buddy loaned me a 38mm flat slide from a CR500 he wasn't using so today I decided to see if It would work. I had to do some modding to get a thumb throttle I had to work with the big flat slide but worked it out. Then the test of starting, the tested part being my foot. After I had the carb on and the cable routed I was ready to here this thing run but it had been many years since I had to kick start a 2 stroke. A very very fresh 2 stroke. I wasn't going down hard enough the first few times and wasn;t starting from the right place but when the planets aligned just right I got it start. I sat and idled good, a little high but smooth. I pushed it out of the shop for it's first ride only to find out 1st gear isn't in there, just some funny noises where 1st once was. Not big deal, I'll try 2nd. Sure enough 2nd was there but the RPM's wasn't and it moved about 4 feet. Just as the feeling was coming back into my foot I had to restart it. This time I rolled it around to the right spot and gave it a good hard push with everything I had but the started gears slipped, and that hurt. After about the 3rd try I had it back. This time I started out like I was on a 2 stroke, full throttle and slipping the clutch. Got it through 3rd and was feeling the power when I ran out of straight and realized that it had no brakes, then I remembered the front brakes just in time go get slowed down to make the 90* turn at the bottom of my driveway. OK, now I've got this. I had it wide open in 4th a couple times. It does this neat little trick where it carries the front wheel about 2 inches off the ground which makes the ride smooth but doesn't steer very well. It was fun, I ended up riding for a couple hours with no major issues. It's got to have some work to be ridden as a trike but my intent was to use the engine in a CCR chassis I have and add a 500cc to this chassis. I'm no longer considering that option. I can right this trike or build the CR back for about the same amount of work and money. As the trike is now, it's really unusable for the riding I do. I'm going to check on a fly wheel weight, 2 stage reeds, torque pipe and a Foresty approved silencer and then maybe add a tooth to the front. That should tame this down a bit. This engine is listed at 43hp, I can tell by the feel that the piston compression is higher than stock, maybe getting around 48hp as it ran today. What did a stock ATC250R make power wise? I've road TRX250's and an ATC250R once back in the day and this thing feels allot stronger than I remember. I was fun but would have been too much for me in the mountains.
