Im going to look/buy a 84 200x and its in great shape and clean but the guy said its a bear to start in the cold...like today it was cold 5f not to mention the wind chill and he said it took him like 10 min to get it started..he said it would fire and die...fire and die...then when it did start it was very cold blooded...but he said when its warm or when its kept in a heated gagage it starts fine..IS this normal for a 200x? Also the same ol question...What should I keep my eye out for on a 84 200x...Im going to look at it in a few hours...
THANKS!!

Oil becomes much thicker in cold areas than in hot ones. This is another reason why cold engines are hard to start. Like any other fluids, oil alters its characteristics when it is heated or when it is in a very hot weather. Often times, this causes the oil to have problems at the time it circulates in the engine of the vehicle.
Over all not that big of a deal, and you could always just spray a little ether into the engine to get it going. But that's probably the reason why its hard to start cold.

Check the kicker out for slipping LOL . Cold start problems are a pain some times . Could be as simple as a dirty idol jet or maybe he didnt use the choke . A weak stator will also cause that . Good luck .

If there is anything wrong with the kicker, you will have to take the entire motor apart to fix it. There was a recall on the kicker, and there is a way to check if it was addressed. The hard starting can be anything.

Ok well I did not get a chance to go look at the 200x but im going tomorrow to look/buy it...I spoke with him again on the trike
and he said when it sits in his garage @ 28F it will start on the 2nd kick...If I were to bring a comp tester what #s should I look for??
He said it "feels" like it has a lot of comp by the way it kicks and runs...but id like some #s before I buy it...Its piped but not sure on the
type prolly a cobra lol....the trike is mint and the guy has owned it since 94' it also has all new tires...Hes @ $700...its not a steal but its what im looking for

Cold starting issues are usually corrected with a valve adjustment or carburetor adjustment. I would not worry about it at all.

i have a 84 200x and mine hates the cold lol depending on how cold it is out it takes a good 5-20 mins to get it idling good but after shes warmed up it will start first kick and all summer long it fires first kick, and idk if its just mine but i don't have a choke..

He thought maybe the reason it did not start very well aside from the cold was it had not been started in a long time...Ill know more today when i try it and if anything is not right or it looks beat- im going to pass...If its as nice as he says Ill be posting pics soon :D either way is all well and good...

Check for cracks in the frame underneath the motor and whatnot.
Mine is a beast to start sometimes, even with full choke on. After a quick valve adjustment, and cleaning the carb, it starts easier in the cold, but no 1-2 kicks deal.

WOW the 200x is a blast to ride! Its got plenty of smile power! That being said...I did not buy it. It started great looked good not great but my worries were with the clutching...It seemed to have a lag when you shift it into each gear like the clutch was weak!!! He was tight on $700 so I passed...plus it had trail pros on it

The trailpros were the cause of the clutch issues, I can 100% guarantee it. Too heavy for sport trike use, you need massive torque to move those.
