I have an 83 185s that i got in pieces. I was wondering if anyone can take a picture of the choke lever. mine seems to have extra parts, wondering if it is even for this machine (see pics). My choke stays engaged unless i hold it down, I must be missing a spring of sorts? whats the braket with the cable for? any info or pics would be greatly appreciated.

yours has a cable that attaches to it with a pull knob.

I agree, yours does have a cable setup, not like mine which does not have that bracket. It should be the other way around as far as engagement, the choke is on in it's rest position. For reference each position (3 in all) should hold it's position without slipping into another.
Looking at your picts, and if I remember correct, your choke looks ok. That lever is what holds the butterfly open, the spring in the choke holds the butterfly closed in a rest position, and there should be a plate with three holes in it to lock the carb into it's positions.
PM me if you need picts, I am in the middle of building a 81 carb for a buddy (which just has different jetting), I can take picts as I go for you.

Thanks for the input guys. Is this choke option on teh 185s? I have not seen anything in the manual regarding the cable choke. Anybody have any info on those ebay carbs? do they come with the choke assembaly?
