they all have a chatter. some louder than others. I have 2 85's setup the same and they both sound diffrent. now my MXer is as quiet as a church mouse. Out of the 6 I have not one sounds like the other in the chatter dept. it's just a 2 stroke thing

Maybe your powerband is worn out?

lol
After the replacing the gaskets - do the well overlooked leakdown test - can save you a head ache and possible $$$$ later down the road.

Mine makes a god awful noise and I can't figure it out, and no it's NOT the kickstarter. Runs fine otherwise and I gave up figuring it out. I took the head off and all is in spec, and I'm not cracking the case for this, I'll just drive it until it blows I guess. You can hear it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoRPc56emmo Does it sound like yours?

all 2 strokes have noises that sound terrible you always think there gonna blow up! and when you rip it apart you might as well do a top end while its open, unless you've done it recently. it never hurts a 2 stroke to do a top end rebuild! let us know how the tear down goes.

Pull the cover off facing the camera and check that the counter shaft end bearing holder isn't trashed. Mine had the same sound, and that is what it was. Hard to tell from a video though. Get a ESR billet one if it is cracked.

@ leviblue,

He said "Reed Valves". Yes, they do have them.

@ leviblue,

He said "Reed Valves". Yes, they do have them. sorry in my old age I can't hear like you youngsters. Sorry I heard the word VALVE and you know but really I'm glad you pointed out and after owning my R for 25 years I'm gonna look for that reed valve. might be next to that powerband their always talking about

Check the flywheel for small cracks near the center....dont ask me why...but one of mine sounded like this and i replaced every damn bearing trying to chase it down, after all fresh bearings it still made that noise, i took a real close look at the flywheel and it had 2 small cracks in it. put a different one on and bam...no noise

Counterbalancer bearings can make noise when they are worn....
