Never thought I would have a carb question but the Tri-Z I just picked up has a Mikuni flat slide TM38 carb on it. The only way to remove the throttle cable from the carb looks to be to pull the top cap which is held on by 2 screws that can't be reached with the carb in place. So do you just pull the throttle cable from the thumb throttle and pull the carb and cable as a unit? Or is there a trick I am not seeing to the carb to remove the cable?

You can loosen your carb clamp and pivot the carb in the boot so you can reach the screws in the top. Remove the screws and pull out the slide. There will be a plastic holder (#2) on top of where the cable connects to the slide, it's under the spring. Use that to pull the spring back to get enough slack to pull the cable end out of the side of the cap (#4) that is screwed into the top of the slide with 2 screws. The page below will use the numbers above. :-)

Sweet, thanks man, I am going to try to get the carb off of it with my lack of a garage and my son who's 2 1/2 hanging out in the yard with me. So the more I know the better. I am so excited to get this thing going, and back into a respectable form. I want to hear the engine run before I pull it and tear everything down.
