got in my driveway and my 185s died, tried to start it again, and it had almost no compression and was making a clanking noise, broken rod maybe?

Nice description. How was it running before this happened? Have you done any work or adjustments to the engine recently? It could have bent a valve or the timing chain came off. Its unlikely for a rod to just break like that without warning on somthing like this.

it was running pretty good, but it started making weird noises and when it shifted down to nuetral, it died, and when i tried to start it back up, it just spins freely and makes a clanking noise, not sure how else to describe it

Idk id think a valve problem or possible rings before a rod.

i thought maybe rings, but wasnt even hardly smokin, even when you revved it it barely let out a little white smoke you could hardly see

no comp + clanking = you killed it

Could be a rod. I broke the rod on my 200x and just before that I waxed my buddy on his blaster.. They run great just trailprotrailpro they puke. When Mine went it half seized, bogged down and lost power. Once I shifted down and got back on it it kind of came back for about a mile then went clunk clunk BANG and locked the back tired up at 50 mph on a dirt road. All over but the crying. Took out the left case, crank, piston, cylinder, and head. Waaa is what I said.
Hope it's something stupid and simple.
Good luck!

you felt your motor start to seize up and just kept ridding what is wrong with you it was probley just the pistion expanding at first but you kept ridding and the extra abuse to the rod snaped it did you even think to stop and mabey let the motor cool down

Take the spark plug out and crank it over with your thumb over the spark plug hole. You will then tell for sure if the rod is broke and most likely it is not. IF the rod is broke there will be no air or compression shooting out the spark plug hole. I am sure your problem is a bent valve due to a worn out timing chain and tensioners.

Not a chance. Was Defiantly the rod bearing taking a sh!t. Everything in the engine was new except the rod, rod bearing, and crank bearings. Cylinder and piston looked new when I took it apart except where the rod came around and smashed into the piston skirt and cylinder. I've blown up my share of sh!t before and this was a different deal. It was a loss of power so I slowed down. By the time I slowed down and got on gravel roads again everything was fine, ran like a champ all through the gears, about a mile down the road it all came apart in an instant. No biggie, it let me put my stroker motor together.

sorry i thought you knew it was seizing and didnt care not just power loss

its probably just your timing chain that went, if theres no compression and a clacking noise when you crank it over its probably because the cam chain fell off. simple test, take the cdi off and cam chain cover look inside.. is there a chain on the sprocket ? lol
