I've been out, fooling around with my 175.. After doing some jetting on it.. I realised i don't have the bottom end that i want to have. It's more than stock, but it doesn't engage where I'd it.

It's not worth gearing differently, once i get a few mph, it takes off like a rocket. But i imagine in the sand it would want to bog a little from a dead stop. Last time i took it to the dunes, there was a couple spots the wheel didn't want to turn, but when they finaly did, it went.. That was in the stock form.

My question is, can i adjust the clutches to engage later?

No, the clutch adjustments don't really work like that. It doesn't take much adjustment to either let the clutches slip or to make the clutches not disengage, which means you couldn't shift gears. When your foot operates the shifter, it also operates the clutch at the same time. If you let your foot of the shifter real fast, it's like popping your hand off the clutch lever. If you let your foot of the shifter slower, it's like easing the clutch lever out slower. But if you really want to have better control of your clutch, then you are better off switching to a manually, hand operated clutch lever. Also is your yt and 82 or 83? The 82 and 83 clutch packs were slightly different. The 83 clutch pack assembly was an impovement over the 82 clutch pack. There is another clutch steel in the 83 that isn't in the 82. You would have to look closely at the 82 and 83 yt175 microfiche to catch the differences in the clutch packs. If you go to a manual clutch set up, they are far superior to the semi auto clutch assemblys and also take more power and you have better control.

I was afraid i was going to hear that. It's an 83, I'm going to have to look for an it175... Can you put a pull start on the IT175? :) lol

What years do i need to look for? 77-78?

I bet ill have better luck finding the whole engine instead of just the clutches.

The transmission mainshaft on the it175 is too narrow and the front sprocket won't line up with the yt175 rear sprocket. It is the same deal with the mx175 trans sprocket, too narrow also. I don't know if the it175 manual clutch parts fit, I know the mx175 clutch parts fit. 77-78 mx175 clutch parts fit for sure. You just have to mix and match your parts once you get htem.

I've heard rumors of the it and the dt working... But if i find any of those around here, ill see how well everything fits and post up with pics, but until then..

I'm thinking of making a thread dedicated to what parts that interchange/fit the yt175and later model yt125's

The earlier model IT 175's will work for the manual clutch set-up. I bought a later model 81 IT 175, thinking it would work, but will not work. It has right side chain drive, I didnt notice until after I bought it. This will be the same from 80-83 I believe with the right side drive. So the later 70's IT 175 is what you want, with the "normal" left side chain drive. Now im just going to have to rebuild the bike, and forget about using the clutch components for my yt 175. It would be sweet to see some videos of your hot little 175 running!

I tried to get some today but my batteries died!! lol I'm thinking of taking about .040" off my spare head, that oughtta raise compression a little ;)
