I've finally gathered most parts for my '85 250r project. Got the cr style reed cage in today and noticed quite a differance in the shape of the plastic insert, I think I've heard it called a "stuffer"? It looks like the older one from the 3-petal reed box would flow more? Just wondering which one anyone else whose done the swap used?

the smaller opening it to direct the flow better with more velosity. it will flow more than enough . i took the stuffer out and run nothing. i had a long conversation with Ronnie about this very subject .

Thanks for the info, any other points from your conversation with Ronnie that would be useful? Maybe I'll try it with and without the stuffer and see if there's a noticable difference. It's the first time having this engine apart since I got this trike (only had 140psi comp.), it's a fairly mild build... 1.50mm oversize, polished the ports, ditched stock exhaust for a FMF and an Answer silencer, new Boyesen power reeds for the CR reed cage, Uni filter. any other tips for a "budget build"????

It sounds like you've got most of the basics covered. I'd also use a 1990 CR250 headgasket, and remove or ventilate your airbox lid.
