this is my first post, but ive been a reader for a while and found the best info on this site, so im wanting to build a threewheeler up for mud i know where a big red 200 is with hi and low shaft drive, is the low end on this bike enough to pull really big tires in low?or should i try finding an 82-83 200 thats chain drive so i can gear it down, and could i gear it down enough to turn like 29.5 outlaws or 31 BACKS maybe?any help is greatly apreciated!

Another member is working on the same thing, he made an 8 tooth front sprocket for 27" tires but needs it lower with a 200 motor.
Try a big red 250es, or 250sx, hopefully 86 or 87 as they seal better. Then buy a 54% reduction, it will cost you a good amount of money for the machining work (think $150) and then you'll need the parts.

i am researching a gear reduction for my 185s now. the low range on the br 200 is low but i have never put that big of tires on one to see if it could spin them. any gear reduction will require machine work. i would say stay away from the chain because while riding in the mud you take a chance on a rock getting in between the chain and sprocket. it doesn't happen often to me but it still happens. the rock doesnt cause much damage. the chain however may come off and get wedged between the front sprocket and the case. not good. try the br 200 and see. if it doesn't spin them, then hopefully i have mastered the gear reduction though the clutches with my bike. as far as clutches go, they are the same between our two bikes. pm me in a few weeks to how it is going. i ordering parts today to play with so i can't get started untill they come in.

keep in mind that you might want to consider a snorkle for the deep stuff. look at mine if you need some ideas

A 250es would be fine in SL with 31's.

that 200m is in really good shape I would go for it and for $400 thats a steal, I payed $300 for one that had not ran in 10 years and was cracked up. I want to see how it works out with the 30's

If you want the best mudder out there:
Big Red 250es or SX.
TRX 300 motor, Big Bore Kit, the new 54% Gear Reduction, 4 valve head swap or just a 459 cam, big red timing chain, carb swap from trx 300 or 300ex, clutch kit.
Then do a fender lift or extend the rear end to clear giant tires. That will be a beast with a snorkel.

i don't know about a br set up like that, but a friend of mine has a stock br 250 and i walk all over him. he is running over blown 25" bear claws. height wise, his tires are the same as mine and a lot wider, being that i have skinnies all the way around. i believe the best mudder has the best torque to weight ratio. plus you really can't paddle a 250 because the way the swinger is set up

ya big red 250s are nice but i just think they would be better with a low range like the 200s have or if it was chain drive but regardless i really like my 200m i have faith in her!shes gonna do exactly what i need her to so im excited

oh yes the m will be top notch. i love my 185. the only thing i would like to have is one-eletric start which you have. the other is reverse which is nice when you bike decides to go sideways. and that is why i want to get my 200 es going. but i have to quit spending money on the 185 and the wife and kids bikes.lol
