Whats going on everyone? I have been cleaning up my 85 350x and Im getting ready to start reassembling it. The frame, foot pegs, bars, etc are getting powder coated and should be done Monday. I cant wait to start putting this thing back together. A few questions for those who know...the head is cracked around a seized exhaust stud, can this be welded and not ghetto rigged? Also I have a XR400 and was looking at some of the parts and I see some stuff that looks interchangeable. Anyone ever used a front master cylinder(or anything else) from an xr400 on a 350x? How about one of those ASV shorty clutch perch's? Im sure Ill have more questions but here's some pics so far. Oh and check out how much space I don't have!! Im gonna be putting this together in my apartment lol.

I would think a good welder or machine shop should be able to remove or drill out the stud, then weld the hole shut and re-drill/tap the hole, being aluminum(possibly magnesium?) it's going to take some skill, I wouldn't let your buddy "have a go at it", it might make things worse and ruin your head. As for parts swapping with an XR400, I don't think things like brake master cylinders, and clutch perches/levers are too bike specific.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with the others. Send that head to Dirtcrasher. He has been on this site forever and has a good business rep and he seems to be the cats meow on these 350x head repairs.good 350X heads with nice cam journals are hard to find these days, so it is worth having repaired the right way which DC can do.

Here is a post showing his work.
Good luck with your build.

If you put this together in your apartment, how are you going to get it out when it's all together? Just askin.....

Thanks for the replies. I searched around locally and found a good machine shop/welder to fix my head. Just picked up the frame from powder coat and it looks friggin awesome!!! Found a really nice original seat too. Once I get the head back the motor, swingarm, and axle are going to powder coat and I can finish this thing. I would post pics of the frame but someone is going to have to tell me how to add more pics to the thread.

tommerp-I have my 200x in my apartment now and I have to take a rear wheel off to get it inside Im hoping to be able to do the same with the 350 but who knows?
